A method and apparatus for enabling multiple services to be invoked in a specific precedence per call are disclosed. For example, the present method allows a subscriber to interact with a plurality of services provided by a service provider on a single call.

Method and apparatus for processing multiple services per call

A method for providing combined local, toll, toll-free services, and number portability, to a calling party originating calls from an IP-based communication devices which are coupled to an IP-based multi-media service provider. The method includes receiving a SIP INVITE message, which includes a multi-media service identifier, at the multi-provider. The SIP INVITE message represents a call request for a multi-media service. The SIP INVITE message is processed at the multi-media service provider for determining the call request can be satisfied. If the multi-media service provider includes resources for satisfying the call, the multi-media service identifier of the SIP INVITE message is set to a first predetermined state and the call is processed. If the multi-media service provider does not include resources for satisfying the call, the multi-media service identifier of the SIP INVITE message is set to a second predetermined state and the call is processed elsewhere.

A system and method for selectively routing telephone calls in an Advanced Intelligent Network, wherein an edge switch , comprising an AIN-equipped switching system, sends a query message to a service control point and receives a response message containing call discrimination information about a telephone call, whereby the edge switch determines whether to route the telephone call via a toll tandem office for further processing. The system further includes a segmentation directory which contains information determinative of which service control point has the service logic to process the call.

System and method for edge switch query using advanced intelligent network protocol

In processing a global title translation request, a segmentation directory performs a directory function based on information found in a services-related portion of a global title translation request, resulting in call parameters that allow the segmentation directory to determine the point code/subsystem number of a service processor needed to complete a call. Without altering a services-related portion of the global title translation request, a modified version of the global title translation request is sent to the service processor. Additionally, the segmentation directory can respond directly to exception and error conditions.
