A fly-by-wire system for a rotorcraft includes a computing device having control laws. The control laws are operable to engage a level-and-climb command in response to a switch of a pilot control assembly being selected. The level-and-climb command establishes a roll-neutral ('wings level') attitude with the rotorcraft increasing altitude. The switch may be disposed on a collective control of the pilot control assembly (e.g., a button on a grip of the collective control). Selection of the switch may correspond to a button depress. The level-and-climb command may include a roll command and a collective pitch command. One or more control laws may be further operable to increase or decrease forward airspeed in response to pilot engagement of the level-and-climb command. The level-and-climb command may correspond to a go-around maneuver, an abort maneuver, or an extreme-attitude-recovery maneuver to be performed by the rotorcraft.

A flight control system having a control law, the control law operable to generate a modified pitch command, the modified pitch command representing a greater amount of collective pitch compared to an amount of collective pitch generated by a first pitch command, the modified pitch command being generated because a vertical descent speed of the rotorcraft at a given forward airspeed is greater than a threshold. A method of avoiding entry into an undesired vertical descent speed region during operation of a rotorcraft, including measuring a forward airspeed; evaluating a vertical descent of the rotorcraft; and generating a modified collective pitch command in respond to a first collective pitch command having a collective pitch value that would cause the rotorcraft to experience a vertical descent rate greater than a threshold value at the forward airspeed of the rotorcraft.

System and method for avoiding inadvertant entry into an unsafe vertical descent speed region for rotorcraft

According to one embodiment, a landing point indication system includes an image provider, a rotorcraft position provider, a pilot image generation system, and a display device. The image provider is operable to provide a visual representation of an area underneath a rotorcraft. The rotorcraft position provider is operable to provide information indicating a position of the rotorcraft. The pilot image generation system is operable to generate a supplemented visual representation. The supplemented visual representation includes the visual representation of the area underneath the aircraft and information indicating a position of the rotorcraft relative to the visual representation. The display device is operable to display the supplemented visual representation within the rotorcraft.
