An adaptor top for a medicament cartridge, the medicament cartridge including a cylinder having a main body portion, a neck portion at a first end having a radially outwardly directed flange portion, a narrowing shoulder portion connecting the body portion and the neck portion, a cap beaded across the first end thereby to retain a fluid impermeable membrane, and the adaptor top comprising a first cylindrical body portion having a radially inwardly directed flange at one end, in use to be seated over and against the cap and a second cylindrical skirt portion being adapted, in use, to be seated against the shoulder portion of the cartridge, the second skirt portion including a plurality of fingers, the free ends of the fingers in use being adapted to be seated beneath the outwardly directed flange of the medicament cartridge.

Medicament cartridge assembly

An injection device having a drive mechanism to expel selectively a dose of medicament from a medicament cartridge through a needle unit is disclosed. The injection device further comprises an electronic control unit to control the drive mechanism, and a dispense button to generate a dispense button signal to the electronic control unit indicative of the dose to be expelled in which an arm button causes a first arm button signal to be sent to the electronic control unit to permit the dose to be expelled.

A medicament injection device in which the time elapsed is calculated from the end of a predetermined period during which medicament is permitted to disperse subsequent to completion of an injection stroke. The medicament injection device is particularly suitable for use by those with diabetes in which once a desired dosage of medicament has been selected and expelled from the medicament cartridge into the body of the patient, the injected medicament is allowed to disperse locally from the injection site within the patient's body before the needle arrangement is removed from the patient's body.

Medicament injection apparatus

A medicament injection apparatus that permits injection of a fluid medicament into a patient through a needle. The medicament injection apparatus includes a timer and a display, the timer being actuated upon commencement of an injection operation, in which the timer runs to a predetermined time until completion of the injection operation and the display is operated while the timer runs. Thus, informing a user of when a required period for dispersal of an injected medicament has lapsed so that the user knows when to withdraw a needle from the body after the injection.

An injection device for injection of a dose of a medicament from a medicament cartridge is disclosed. The injection device of the present invention comprises a main housinghaving an electronic control unit, a cover detection switch, and a display paneloperative selectively to indicate to the user information relevant to the user. The display panelhas an active state in which information is provided to the user and an inactive state in which no information is provided. A cap or coveradapted to cover one end of the main housingof the injection device is provided. When the presence of the capis detected, the electronic control unit switches the display panelto an active state for a predetermined period of time.

A person having diabetes will often be required to take both slow acting and fast acting forms of insulin. It is important to be able to distinguish readily between medicament cartridges containing different medicaments. The present invention enables more ready distinction as between medicament cartridges containing different medicaments. An adaptor top for a medicament cartridge, the medicament cartridge comprising a cylinder having a main body portion, a neck portion at a first end having a radially outwardly directed flange portion, a narrowing shoulder portion connecting the body portion and the neck portion, a cap beaded across the first end thereby to retain a fluid impermeable membrane, and the adaptor top comprising a first cylindrical body portion having a radially inwardly directed flange at one end, in use to be seated over and against the cap and a second cylindrical skirt portion being adapted, in use, to be seated against the shoulder portion of the cartridge, the second skirt portion including a plurality of fingers, the free ends of the fingers in use being adapted to be seated beneath the outwardly directed flange of the medicament cartridge.

An injection device of the kind having a main housing () is disclosed and includes a drive mechanism () to expel selectively a dose of medicament from a medicament cartridge () through a needle unit () and an electronic control unit to control the drive mechanism (). The injection device further comprises a prime button () which causes a prime signal to be sent to the electronic control unit, the electronic control unit actuating the drive mechanism () to expel a predetermined small dose of medicament on receipt of the prime signal. In this way removal of entrapped air from the medicament cartridge () is obtained.

It is a problem that such injection devices should be small enough to fit into a jacket pocket or a hand bag without difficulty. Concurrently, the injection device must be of size that enables a piston or similar used to drive a cartridge bung within the cartridge to be moved both to a maximum dispense position within the cartridge and to be fully withdrawn from the cartridge to allow for replacement of the cartridge. A drive mechanism for an injection device is disclosed comprising a piston member, a semi rigid beltconnected to the piston member, a belt drive means to selectively engage with the semi rigid beltto drive the semi rigid belt, and a dose setting mechanism to control the selective engagement of the semi rigid belt in which the semi rigid beltincludes a track incorporated therein and the belt drive means comprises a toothfor selective engagement with the track to drive the beltonly when there is relative movement between the semi rigid beltand the toothin a first direction. An injection device comprising such a drive mechanism is also disclosed.

Relating in and relating to an injection device

Many of those having diabetes take a combination of slow and fast acting types of insulin. It is important that the different forms of medicament do not become confused. To this end, a medicament cartridge is provided comprising a sleeve having a bottleneck providing a flange at a first end, a fluid impermeable membrane secured across the first end by a metal cap beaded beneath the flange, and a displaceable piston located internally of the sleeve towards a second end of the sleeve, a collar located against an external periphery of the cartridge housing beneath the flange and an adaptor top press fit over the cap and the collar, the adaptor top being provided with means to act upon the collar thereby to retain the adaptor top on the sleeve.

A drive mechanism for an injection device is disclosed in which a piston () is successively moved along the first axis to drive a bung () into a medicament cartridge (), a displacement mechanism comprising a dose setting spindle () is disposed along a second axis, the second axis being parallel to the first axis, transmission means connected between the dose setting spindle () and the piston (), and displacement means to displace the dose setting spindle () with respect to the medicament cartridge (), a movement of the displacement means in a first direction causing movement of the dose setting spindle () and the piston () in the first direction.

Injection device

A drive mechanism for an injection device is disclosed in which piston means are selectively driven to expel medicament from within a medicament cartridge. The drive mechanism comprises a drive means associated with a first ratchet member, a second ratchet member associated with the piston means, a housing, the first ratchet member and the second ratchet member being disposed within the housing. The second ratchet member being biased by biasing means toward the first ratchet member. The drive means is actuable reciprocally to drive the first ratchet member in a first angular direction such that the first ratchet member drives the second ratchet member along its longitudinal axis against the biasing means along at least a part of its movement and subsequently drives the first ratchet member and the second ratchet member together in a second angular direction thereby to drive the piston means.

Drive mechanism for an injection device

The present invention relates to a medicament injection apparatus. It is desirable following injection of a medicament to wait a short time before withdrawing the needle unit from the patient to allow injected medicament to disperse within the patient to reduce the risk of some of the injected medicament escaping through the needle wound and so not being dispersed into the patient as desired. This problem is particularly acute where a patient uses the apparatus to self-administer a dose since, where this waiting period is indicated to a user, the waiting period is a set time independent of whether the size of the dose to be injected. The user often feels that for a small dose it is not as important to leave the needle unit within the body for the full waiting period and so does not allow the waiting period properly to elapse. A medicament injection apparatus is disclosed wherein signal means actuated by a processor for signal the end of a predetermined period of time elapsing from the end of the injection operation wherein the predetermined period of time elapsing is dependent upon the amount of the medicament injected. This has as an advantage the giving of a user confidence that the waiting period for each dose size is important and should be respected.
