For fast ethernet switches, a modular and scalable structure using programmable one-port communication modules is disclosed. The forwarding process is sequential and operates in a store-and-forward mode. The design follows a strictly predictable scheme. The forwarding process, the distribution logic, maximum latency and programmable functions, i.e. traffic monitoring capabilities, traffic filtering/policing capabilities and network management function capabilities are described and explained with reference to typical examples.

Modular and scalable switch and method for the distribution of fast ethernet data frames

Water draining device for a paper machine or the like, in particular for a felted press of such a paper machine, including a receiving tank extending at least essentially over the machine width. The receiving tank includes a first chamber that receives arriving water and is under ambient pressure, and a second chamber that is connected to the first chamber and is under vacuum, into which the water collecting in the first chamber is aspirated and from which the water is eventually drained. A water receiving device of improved efficiency is also provided by forming a water receiving device by at least one suction channel projecting into the wedge-shaped area between the upper press roll and the dewatering belt, and extending transverse to the pulp web, which suction channel is connected to a source of reduced pressure.

Process and apparatus for drying a material web. The process includes guiding the material web to at least one heated area having a jacket surface of a cylinder having a diameter of between about 4-10 meters, setting the material web, having a dry content of between about 45-55%, onto the at least one heated area, maintaining the material web in uninterrupted contact with the at least one heated area at least until the material web achieves a firmness sufficient for detaching the material web from the heated area, and detaching the material web from the at least one heated area with a dry content of between about 55%-65%.

Calender and process for operating a calendar

A method facilitates simultaneously balancing mechanically coupled, synchronously rotating rotors. The rotors have different axes of rotation relative to one another and together define a rotor group to be balanced. Each rotor has at least one of a bearing plane and an other measuring plane associated therewith, the other measuring plane significantly describing vibrations of the each rotor. The rotors within the rotor group together have a number of different angular velocities associated therewith. At least one rotor of the rotor group is equipped with at least one vibration pickup in at least one of each bearing plane and the other measuring plane thereof. As many impulse and phase transmitters are installed in the rotor group as are provided the number of different angular velocities associated with the rotors within the rotor group. At least pertaining vibration signals and a pertaining speed signal are recorded simultaneously, with regard to a respective one of each bearing plane and the other measuring plane. For each bearing plane and the other measuring plane, the coefficients of influence thereof are determined by applying a method of coefficients of influence and setting defined test unbalances. At least one corresponding matrix of coefficients of influence is generated, and a counterbalance mass distribution from the at least one corresponding matrix of coefficients of influence is determined for every operating balance plane of the rotor group. Each bearing plane and measuring plane define one test balance plane.

Method of balancing rotors

Described is a machine for manufacturing a continuous web, in particular a paper or cardboard web, the machine having a number of rolls that may include press rolls, drying cylinders, suction rolls, or the like. At least one transport belt is guided with the web around the rolls and is characterized by the fact that a metallic screen is guided between the web and the respective roll surface. The metallic screen may be formed of metal, formed as a metallized drying screen, or formed from metal and synthetic threads.

Heated cylinder and process of using same for heating a fibrous material web in machines for one of producing and refining the fibrous material web. The heated cylinder includes a cylinder jacket having an outer jacket layer with good heat conductivity, a heat insulating layer positioned contiguous to and inside of the outer jacket layer, and at least one heating system positioned outside the cylinder jacket adapted to heat at least a surface of the cylinder. The process includes heating a surface of the cylinder to a temperature between about 120 and 250&deg; C. with the at least one heating system, and guiding a material web over a portion of the surface of the cylinder such that the material web contacts the surface of the cylinder for a period of at least about 50 ms.

Heated cylinder and process of using same

Process and apparatus for drying a material web. The process includes guiding the material web to at least one heated area, maintaining the material web in uninterrupted contact with the at least one heated area at least until the material web achieves a firmness sufficient for detaching the material web from the heated area. The apparatus includes at least one heated area arranged to receive the material web. The at least one heated area includes a removal zone arranged for the removal of the material web from the at least one heated area. The at least one heated area has a length is sufficient to achieve a sufficient firmness of the material web to be removed in the removal zone.

Method and device for moisture profiling of fibrous material web to be dried in machines for manufacturing and/or refining of fibrous material web. Method includes subjecting fibrous material web to electromagnetic waves in the form of high-frequency waves. Device includes a fibrous material web support that supports travel of fibrous material web and a rotating cylinder. Rotating cylinder receives fibrous material web from fibrous material web support, and fibrous material web support is arranged outside fibrous material web in relation to the surface of the rotating cylinder. At least one electromagnetic wave transmitter is also included. Rotating cylinder conveys fibrous material web past the at least one electromagnetic wave transmitter, electromagnetic wave transmitter produces electromagnetic waves laterally to material fibrous web, and electromagnetic waves balances out moisture variances laterally to fibrous material web by drying moister areas of fibrous material web more intensely than dried areas of fibrous material web.

Method and device for moisture profiling

Drying section of a machine for producing a material web. The drying section includes a support roll with an associated impingement dryer, and at least one straight or curved section forming at least a part of a closed path between a last nip of a press section adjacent the drying section and the support roll. The support roll and the impingement dryer are arranged to guide the material web over the support roll, and, thereby, to subject the material web to at least one of hot air and hot steam impingement. The at least one straight or slightly curved section is structured and arranged to form at least one of an impingement drying section and a transfer foil section.

Heated drying cylinder

Process and apparatus for spraying a moving fibrous web with at least one jet. The process includes feeding a controlled volume flow of a spray agent to the at least one jet through at least one pulsing valve, and damping and reducing pulses occurring in the controlled volume flow of the spray agent. The apparatus includes at least one jet arranged to be fed with a controlled volume flow of a spray agent, at least one pulsing valve which feeds the controlled volume flow of the spray agent to said at least one jet, and at least one pulse damper arranged to damp or reduce pulses occurring in the controlled volume flow of the spray agent.
