A downhole tool can include a position sensor comprising a first set of magnets and an internal slider. The downhole tool can also include a valve magnet assembly comprising a second set of magnets magnetically couplable to the first set of magnets. The second set of magnets can be positionable circumferentially around an outer diameter of the position sensor. The valve magnet assembly can be configured to move in response to a fluid valve. The valve magnet assembly can be configured to cause the internal slider of the position sensor to move in response to movement of the valve magnet assembly.

An electro-hydraulic control system for actuating a control valve includes a control module. The control module is coupled to the surface via at least one hydraulic line and two electrical power lines. The control module uses one of the hydraulic lines as a 'supply' line and the other line as a “return” line if included. Each hydraulic line of the at least one hydraulic lines can be used as an “open” line or a “close” line to open or close the control valve. The control module includes two normally closed (NC) solenoid valves (SOVs) that are coupled to the electrical power lines and can be controlled from the surface to open or close. The opening or closing of the NC SOVs in cooperation with hydraulic pressure on a “supply” line of the hydraulic lines operates (i.e., closes or opens) the control valve.

A NC hydraulic activated pilot cartridge in the control module can be actuated open, and movement of the control valve in either direction can continue for a short time without energizing either of the NC SOVs, therefore lowering a power demand required by the system.

This disclosure presents an apparatus to improve the indication of an amount that a fluid valve is opened. The fluid control assembly includes an improved position sensor assembly (PSA), where the PSA uses rollers rather than sliding within the PSA housing. The rollers, which can be wheels, ball bearings, and other types of rolling devices, can reduce the friction experienced by the moving component within the PSA. Since the PSA mechanism can move with less friction, the coupled valve magnetic assembly (VMA) can also be enhanced. The VMA can utilize magnets in orientations that enhance the magnetic tensile and compressive forces. For example, some magnets in the VMA can be in a perpendicular orientation to improve directional control and some magnets can be in an angled orientation to reduce the spread of the magnetic field flux lines between the magnets of the VMA and the magnets of the PSA.

Components and systems include devices for implementing downhole splice connections within a wellbore. In some embodiments, a downhole splice connector includes at least one connector body having an inner diameter defining a cavity within which at least one connector receptacle is disposed, and at least one conductive center pin disposed within the at least one connector receptacle. The downhole splice connector further includes at least one pressure sleeve annularly disposed between an inner diameter of the connector body and an outer diameter of the center pin, such that a pressure barrier is formed between an outer diameter of the pressure sleeve and an inner diameter of the connector body and a pressure barrier is formed between an inner diameter of the pressure sleeve and an outer diameter of the center pin.

Downhole cables include a center electrical conductor, a first insulator positioned around the center conductor, a second insulator positioned around the first insulator, and a pressure tube surrounding the second insulator. The cable further includes one or more slots extending axially along a length of the second insulator, or one or more slots extending axially along an inner diameter of the pressure tube.

A cable assembly, well system, and method of use. A cable assembly may comprise a protective covering and a cable disposed in the protective covering. The cable may comprise a center conductor, an insulator. The insulator may be disposed about the center conductor. The cable may comprise an extra conductive layer, where the extra conductive layer may comprise copper and may be disposed about the insulator, and an outer conductive casing. A well system may comprise a cable assembly, which may comprise a protective covering, and a cable. The well system may further comprise downhole equipment disposed in a wellbore, wherein the downhole equipment may be connected to the cable assembly. A method for using a cable assembly in a well may comprise providing the cable assembly, inserting the cable assembly in the well, and sending a signal current through the cable assembly from the surface to downhole equipment.

Another position sensor includes an indicator portion including a slider for displacing at least one contact relative to a resistive element, the slider being displaceable between first and second limits, and an end load mechanism including a biasing device which exerts a biasing force on the slider as the slider approaches at least the first limit. Another position sensor includes an indicator portion including a resistive element and at least one contact which contacts and displaces across the resistive element, a change in position of the contact relative to the resistive element being indicated by a resistance change as the contact displaces across the resistive element.
