A system for maintaining or optimizing a mobile phone network, the system includes a plurality of data feed inputs including at least one performance data feed input to receive performance data relating to performance of said mobile phone network over a first time period and at least one configuration data feed input to receive configuration data relating to configuration of said mobile phone network over a second time period; and a radio performance optimization system coupled to said plurality of data feed inputs, said radio performance optimization system including a rules engine to operate on said performance data and on said configuration data in accordance with a set of hierarchical rules and to output one or more tasks for network optimization, a said task including a definition of a potential fault, exception or optimization of said network to be investigated by a service engineer.

Mobile phone network management systems

This invention generally relates to systems, methods and computer program code for monitoring digital mobile communications networks, in particular digital mobile phone networks, for purposes such as a test, trouble shooting, and evaluation of a network and its usage. A method of processing digital mobile phone network data for analysis, the method comprising: inputting network data captured from a digital mobile phone network, said network data comprising data for a plurality of communications sessions over said network, said network data including a plurality of session related parameters; inputting query data for one or more queries, a query defining a statistic relating to one or more of said parameters, to be computed from said network data; operating with said query on said captured network data to determine one or more intermediate statistics; storing said intermediate statistics in a data store for analysis; and displaying a result of said query in a Graphical User Interface (GUI), said GUI comprising a map having at least one clickable icon, said icon providing information on a result of said query from said statistic and, when clicked, the GUI providing information on data from which said statistic is computed.

Mobile communications network monitoring systems

We describe techniques for storing and processing data captured in large volumes from digital mobile phone networks. One technique inputs a stream of messages, writes sequential sets of message parameters into a first FIFO at an entry point; reads the parameters from an exit point; and writes the read parameters into a second data structure. Importantly in this technique the entry point and the exit point are separated by predetermined minimum length defined in terms of a number of the sets of parameters and/or a time. Some preferred implementations also include a last value data store or bucket to store one or more most recent previous values of message parameters.

Data storage and processing systems

This invention relates to systems, methods and computer program code for testing, troubleshooting and evaluation of mobile phone network. We describe a method of processing network data which includes a plurality of session related parameters. The method comprises inputting one or more queries, a query defining a statistic relating to said parameters and to be computed from said network data, formatting a query to define said statistic in terms of one or more intermediate statistics from which said statistic is computable, operating with said formatted query to determine said one or more intermediate statistics, and storing these in a data store for analysis, preferably indexed by said parameters. Preferably entries for the parameters are stored at time positions in a data pipe.

Monitoring system for a mobile communication network for traffic analysis using a hierarchial approach

A method of testing a digital mobile phone network such as a GPRS or 3G network comprises either using real traffic or creating test traffic using test mobile phone coupled to a computer, and using the computer to measure a parameter associated with the network's response to the traffic. The measurements made by the computer are themselves sent as traffic to create one or more data streams within the mobile phone network comprising the traffic, measurements relating to the traffic, and signalling relating to the traffic, whereby this data stream or these streams can be captured at interface points within the network and analysed to investigate the functioning of the network dynamically as the network is exercised with the traffic. Software and test equipment for performing the method are also described.
