An indirect radiant heating device burns gaseous or liquid fossil fuels for the heat treatment of running products, such as bars, tubes, and strips kept in a protective atmosphere. The device includes a radiant cassette of parallelepipedal shape, with a continuous radiating surface whose cross section, in a plane perpendicular to the axis of the cassette, is delimited by a continuous line which falls inside a rectangle whose height/width ratio is greater than 1.5.

A method for depositing composite metallic coatings on a metallic strip, involves bringing in contact with a metallic coating, deposited on the strip by using a continuous dip coating method, before setting of the metallic coating, an additive metal powder in suspension in a gaseous jet. The melting point of the additive metal powder is higher than that of the base coating metal, so that the additive metal powder particles penetrate into the coating in order to obtain a composite structure imparting to the strip an increased corrosion resistance, compared to that provided by a base coating free from additive metal.

An installation includes a first fixed return roller, positioned above the melted zinc bath level and along which passes the band to be galvanized, when exiting from a galvanization tromp. A second return roller is mounted on a mobile arm and guides the band, after galvanization to an excess metal removing device. A coating roller, mounted on a mobile arm is adapted to be brought to two positions, a first position where it dips into the zinc bath for coating a determined face of the band, and a second position where it is moved clear of the path followed by the band. A bottom roller is supported by a mobile arm so as to be movable to two positions, a working position at the bottom of the tank, so as to provide for the immersion of the band in contact with such roller for carrying out galvanization of both faces, and a rest position clear from the path followed by the band.

A process is described for the separation of gaseous atmospheres in heat treatment plants, under atmosphere, especially in dip metal coating plants; this process being characterized by the fact that the gaseous atmosphere separation is performed near the coating metal bath and the heat treatment furnace by injecting a gas flow into an enclosed space connecting the heat treatment furnace to the metal bath in such a way that a part of this gas flow is conveyed to the furnace and the other part sweeps the bath neighboring zone, collects coating metal vapors, and is then exhausted and treated. Metal articles are cooled continuously by means of a conical jet of liquid injected into a jet of gas projected at low pressure and high speed onto the articles. The injection is carried out in such a way that particles of liquid are distributed throughout the jet, thus forming a mist which is projected onto the articles. Steel strips, notably in a galvanizing unit production line, are preheated in an oven heated with liquid fuel, the latter being mixed with water to form an emulsion, in the proportion of 0.3 to 1 kg of water per kg of liquid fuel, the oven temperature ranging from about 900.degree. to about 1,500.degree. C.

An apparatus for the treatment of galvanized sheet-iron emerging from a galvanization bath in order to reduce to a minimum value the size of the 'minispangle' appearing on its surface comprises a housing divided into two identical casings spaced to form a vertical passage through which the sheet is caused to travel continuously, each casing comprising a spray nozzle and a pair of recovery slots disposed on either side of the nozzle, and blower means for directing an air stream loaded with zinc particles in suspension against the moving sheet surfaces so that the zinc particles will crystallize before the liquid zinc coating has set. The blower means produces the stream and recovers on its section side the previously blown air. Passages in the casings direct the air stream towards the spray nozzle and from the recovery slots.

Liquid effluents are continously discharged into a reaction chamber and vaporized by a flame formed by a jet of gaseous oxidizer which is impelled in rotational motion and into which is introduced a fluid fuel. The ignited oxidizer-fuel mixture is directed into the chamber inlet in a jet which is spatially distinct from the discharge of liquid effluents. The combustible substances contained in the simultaneously atomized liquid effluents are evaporated and burned by the jet of oxidizer-fuel mixture.
