A desiccant container () includes a cylindrical body () having a first end () and an opposed second end (). The cylindrical body () defines a desiccant chamber () within the cylindrical body () for holding the desiccant material within the chamber () between the first and second ends (). The cylindrical body () is made of a flexible, gas permeable, liquid impermeable material. A first disk () is secured adjacent the first end (), and a second disk () secured adjacent the second end () to facilitate closing of the ends () and to support maintenance of a cylindrical shape of the container () during usage of the desiccant container () in high-speed automated packaging machinery.

Desiccant container and method of manufacture

A process for splicing cut ends of a continuous strip of packets or bags used to hold bulk material. The steps of the process include forming a continuous strip of packets from packaging material and filling the packets with bulk material. The edges of the packaging material are sealed to form individual packets of the continuous strip such that adjacent packets share a common sealed area of packaging material. Openings are then formed in the common sealed areas between the adjacent packets. The continuous strip is then cut entirely across the common sealed area of the packets at two separate locations on the continuous strip to form cut ends such that each of the cut ends of the continuous strip contains an opening in the common sealed area. Without using splicing tape, the two cut ends of the continuous strip with openings are spliced together such that the openings in the two cut ends overlap. The splicing process can be accomplished by ultrasonic welding, impulse splicing or other processes. Also disclosed is equipment for the splicing processes.

Device and method for preparation of a condom by a user. The device defines a circular surface adapted to receive the annular ring of a condom in retaining or sealing relationship and gas inflation source is provided for producing a gas flow into the condom. By producing a pressure level to cause a detectable loss of air if the membrane has porosity in excess of a predetermined maximum degree the user can effectively test the condom for leaks. By associating the gas inflation sources with a composition selected to reside in the condom during use and effective against sperm or disease organisms, the user may achieve an improved degree of protection. The devices shown define an elongated, generally cylindrical forming member, which may be nestable annular elements, which extends from the circular surface that is engaged by the ring of the condom into the tubular membrane, adapted to support the condom to enable it to be unrolled into position for treatment and rerolled upon itself into compact form ready for use. Both a bellows and an aerosol can are shown for inflation and for injecting the active fluid composition. A storage compartment for pre-prepared condoms is advantageously provided in the device.

Preparation of condoms by the user

In a clothes washer of the type which has an array of tuckers and which is reciprocated vertically toward and away from the bottom of a container of washing liquid, a diaphragm is mounted to have an extended orientation during downward stroke for displacing liquid, and a relatively collapsed orientation during upward stroke, and a volume-outlining, clothes-restraining open uper structure provided over the diaphgram, this open structure extending upwardly from the diaphragm so that at least a part of it extends above the normal liquid level when the washer is in its lowest position. In action, as the diaphragm displaces liquid downwardly, the open structure, in following behind the diaphragm, restrains articles of clothes from moving inwardly over the diaphragm but allows liquid to move inwardly through the clothes and through the open structure to fill in behind the diaphragm. As it approaches the bottom of the container, the diaphragm applies an effective outward clothes-washing jet of liquid from between the diaphragm and the bottom surface of the container to prevent tangle of the downwardly-tucked clothes. During upward stroke the open structure and diaphragm are free to move upwardly with relatively low resistance.

The exterior of a compressed tampon, e.g. for absorbing menstrual discharge, is formed from a bat of substantially aligned absorbent fibers that have been preshortened in a microundulated state as a result of longitudinal compressive pretreatment. The preshortening, generally more than 20% of original length of the fibers, is selected to permit substantial recovery of original dimension, there being at least 10 of the microundulations per inch prior to incorporation in the tampon. The microundulations are shape-retentive (in the dry state) and reside with the sides of adjacent microundulations close together. Because of the pretreated state, the absorbent fibers have stored mechanical energy in a predetermined selected direction within the final tampon. They are highly moisture sensitive, responsive to small amounts of liquid to cause release of the mechanical energy and expansion in the given direction to cause rapid expansion of the exterior of the tampon. One preferred tampon has such a pretreated outer layer and an inner core of nontreated tampon material, though many other constructions are possible. In this preferred tampon the pretreated outer layer serves as a high-speed transfer member to uniformly distribute the fluids about the core to produce high rate of expansion, high total expansion and improved absorbency.

This invention provides a quick and accurate gauging means for locating and clamping a guide onto the top surface and leading edge of a workpiece, with respect to the line of cut desired. During execution of the cut, the gauging member of the guide is automatically returned to its storage position and cocked for the next cut. This guide is completely operable with only one hand, leaving the other hand simultaneously free for holding and operating the portable hand power saw.
