An aircraft tire having a liquid deflector extending outwardly from at least one sidewall, a first plurality of grooves in the tread and a second plurality of grooves disposed axially outwardly of the tire relative to the first plurality of grooves for directing water from the first plurality of grooves toward the respective liquid deflectng means. The first plurality of grooves may interconnect to direct water to the second plurality of grooves each of which may extend at an angle of between about 25 and 35 degrees relative to a radial plane of the tire passing through the respective groove.

A method for determining the depth of a separation employs laser interferograms filmed of the interior surface of a tire. The tire in a chamber is subjected to two different sub-atmospheric pressures which differ by a predetermined increment. The foregoing abstract is not to be taken as limiting the invention of this application, and in order to understand the full nature and extent of the technical disclosure of this application, reference must be made to the accompanying drawing and the following detailed description.

Determining depth location of separations within a tire

A tire having a tread with a wide center groove, which is specially configured and includes a series of diamond-shaped ledges disposed end-to-end along each side of the groove intermediate the open top and enclosed bottom of the groove. At least one slot is disposed in each ledge to enhance traction when the ribs become sufficiently worn that the ledges contact the roadway.
