An I.V. bag is connected to a drip chamber, then to a conventional tube clamp and a regulating tube containing a wick or other material that breaks surface tension of the liquid in the tube, which flows into a bubble separator that forces any remaining entrained air through one or more hydrophobic gas permeable membranes, and then into the patient. A downstream check valve adjacent to the bubble separator prevents back flow into or through the bubble separator. An upstream check valve adjacent to the bubble separator prevents air from being drawn into the bubble separator through its gas permeable hydrophobic membrane. A vent placed adjacent to the tube clamp isolates any pressure drop above the vent, allowing a pressure head to develop in the regulating tube, which insures a constant flow of I.V. liquid into the patient regardless of downstream or upstream hydraulic conditions.

Intravenous liquid flow regulator

A stand for supporting and displaying cut trees includes a closed hexagonal base having three upwardly and inwardly projecting legs that converge in about the center of the hexagonal base and that support a V-shaped cradle having upper and lower cradle arms that contact the tree trunk on two sides at both an upper location and at a lower location. A chain latching mechanism tightly fastens a chain about the circumference of the tree at a location between the upper and lower cradle arms.

An IV flow monitor is connected to a conventional IV bag via a self-contained puncture tube, and includes a liquid reservoir at the top, which allows the liquid to transfer through a transfer tube and then through a calibrated orifice tube into an orifice chamber, from which the liquid falls through an exit tube connected to a patient or other IV equipment. A manometer tube is connected between the liquid reservoir and the orifice chamber and is aligned with a measurement scale fixed to a backing plate upon which the apparatus is mounted. The pressure drop across the calibrated orifice tube produces a standing column of liquid in the manometer tube and principles of fluid flow allow the rate of flow through the apparatus to be read from the scale. An air trap chamber in an upper portion of the orifice chamber and hydrophobic gas membranes provide safety features that prevent air from being entrained in the liquid flowing through the exit tube to the patient.

Intravenous fluid flow monitor

A device is disclosed for dispensing food particles at a controlled rate in which a container is used having an aperture located on one side of the container. A tube is attached to the aperture such that food can pass through the tube, then through the aperture and be expelled outside the container. The aperture defines a longitudinal axis coinciding with the axis of the tube. The gap between the tube and an end portion of the device is predetermined to control the rate of consumption of the food particles being expelled from the container.
