While a mounted file system with a file system transaction logging capability is in a metadata frozen state, a file system transaction on the file system is performed, the transaction comprising a logged set of metadata updates required to implement the transaction in the file system, the performing comprising diverting the set of metadata updates from the file system to a temporary storage location outside the file system. During the metadata frozen state, a consistency check on metadata of the file system is performed, the consistency check attempting to identify an inconsistency in the metadata. The file system is recovered from the metadata frozen state, the recovering comprising implementing the diverted set of metadata updates on the file system.

Maintaining metadata consistency of a mounted file system during runtime

A method for repairing a corrupted filesystem, whereby the corrupted filesystem includes a plurality of corrupted metadata structures is provided. The method may include determining a plurality of missing metadata structures associated with the corrupted filesystem. The method may also include determining a plurality of current addresses corresponding to a plurality of valid metadata structures in a hierarchical metadata structure of the corrupted filesystem. The method may further include locating the plurality of missing metadata structures and a plurality of addresses associated with the missing metadata. The method may also include rebuilding the plurality of missing metadata structures based on the located plurality of addresses associated with the missing metadata structures, whereby the rebuilding comprises assigning the located plurality of address to the plurality of missing metadata structures and redirecting the plurality of missing metadata structures to point to a correct plurality of other metadata structures.

Analyzing and correcting corruption which caused filesystem checker failure so that the filesystem checker will run without error

The present disclosure relates to maintaining file system consistency on a mounted storage device in a computing system during system runtime. In one embodiment, a method generally includes locking access to a file stored in a file system on the mounted storage volume and metadata associated with the file. A computing system determines one or more properties associated with the file and examines the metadata for inconsistencies between the metadata and the determined properties. Upon determining that the metadata and the determined properties are consistent, the computing system generates a backup copy of the file, commits the backup copy to a backup data repository, and unlocks access to the file.

Runtime file system consistency checking during backup operations

A system debugs software code and performs a method of debugging software code. The method includes starting execution of an instantiation of a process within the software code and determining whether the instantiation of the process corresponds with any entry in a database of reserved process identifiers (PIDs) and thread identifiers (TIDs). The system also includes assigning the PID and the TID from among the reserved PIDs and the TIDs in the database to the instantiation of the process based on the instantiation of the process corresponding with any entry in the database.

A method for location-based service migration is provided. The method may include monitoring, by a processor, a location of a mobile device. The method may also include checking the location against a geo-location profile, whereby the geo-location profile includes at least one of a service, a plurality of migration rules, a plurality of data, an application, a security, and a plurality of access frequency criteria. The method may further include transferring the at least one service and a plurality of data objects used by the at least one service from a first server with a server location outside a bounds for the location to a second server within a bounds for the location in response to detecting a service in the geo-location profile meets a migration criteria.

Location-based mobile object management in a distributed cloud for enhancing access and performance

An I/O request to store a file in a file-system is received. A determination is made whether the size of the file does not exceed a threshold size. Exceeding the threshold results in storing at least a portion of the file in a block of the file-system devoid of sub-blocks. A determination is made whether the size of the file does not exceed a size of unallocated space within a single block in the file-system. The single block includes a set of sub-blocks. Responsive to the size of the file not exceeding the threshold size and the size of unallocated space within the single block, the file is stored, at an address, in a first subset of the set of the sub-blocks of the single block. The address identifies the single block and a position of a sub-block in the subset.

Storing a small file with a reduced storage and memory footprint

A computer identifies a relationship among a subset of a set of data blocks, a basis of the relationship forming a context shared by the subset of data blocks. The computer selects a code data structure from a set of code data structures using the context. The context is associated with the code data structure, and the code data structure includes a set of codes. The computer computes, for a first data block in the subset of data blocks, a first code corresponding to a content of the first data block. The computer determines whether the first code matches a stored code in the code data structure. The computer replaces, responsive to the first code matching the stored code, the first data block with a reference to an instance of the first data block. The computer causes the reference to be stored in a target data processing system.

A shell debug application avoids loss of debug log data for configured commands during the operation of an operating system. A shell debug application executes a command shell script, by a computer, to control an amount of code path debug data captured in memory buffers and saved. The shell debug application obtains, by the computer, a configuration file that includes at least one command. The shell debug application runs the command shell script in the configuration file in response to detection of at least one script associated with the at least one command in the configuration file.

A computer implemented method, a computer program product and a data processing system provide a method for modifying a computer program during execution of the computer program by a processor unit. A computer receives an instruction string. The instruction string has a new function data therein for replacing current function data of a function of the computer program during execution of the computer program by a processor unit. The function is capable of being changed during execution of the computer program to modify the behavior of the computer program. The computer replaces the current function data with the new function data. The new function data modifies the computer program. The computer program is modified while the computer program is executed by the processor unit.
