A method of making a sheet of building material, useful for roofing or siding applications, and the sheet material made by such method. A mixture of a thermoplastic resin and mineral filler is prepared, the resin comprising about 10% to 40% by weight of the mixture and the filler comprising about 60% to 90% by weight. The mixture is mixed at a temperature above the melting point of the resin and is formed into a sheet at such temperature. The sheet is allowed to cool until the surface is at a temperature below the midpoint of the melting range of the thermoplastic resin, e.g. in the range of 210 to 220 degrees F. (99 to 104 degrees C.), for polyethylene, at which point it is strained by passing it through calendering rollers. The sheet material made by this process, having a high concentration of mineral filler, is fire resistant, durable, ductile, of moderate weight and resistant to weathering. It can be produced using relatively inexpensive manufacturing equipment. The sheet material can incorporate a high proportion of recycled resin, such as recycled high density polyethylene.

Method of making a sheet of building material

An intraoperative tissue assessment device and method based on optical and mechanical techniques that allows a surgeon to assess certain mechanical properties of tissue samples. The device includes a cavity for housing and securing at least a portion of the tissue sample in communication with a pressurization source to inflate a portion of the tissue forming a dome of tissue having a height axis substantially perpendicular to the tissue sample secured within the cavity. The height of the dome of tissue along the height axis is generally proportional to the strength of the tissue sample. A source of illumination projects collimated light rays in the direction of the dome of tissue illuminating the dome of tissue and creating a Moir&eacute; fringe pattern, which may be used to determine the degree of anisotropy of the tissue sample when viewed through a viewing port arranged substantially directly above the dome of tissue.

Device and method for testing tissue

An internal fault indicator for an electrical device is triggered by a sudden increase in pressure as occurs when an insulation failure creates an electric arc. The heat released in the arc is transferred onto the surrounding volume causing localized overheating, vaporization and decomposition of the insulating material. The resulting pressure surge moves a diaphragm. The movement of the diaphragm releases a spring driven plunger from a barrel which extends through the housing of the electrical device. Prior to activation the plunger is held in an &ldquo;armed&rdquo; position by a retaining pin. Upon triggering, the plunger is pushed by the spring until it protrudes from the housing to provide a visual signal of the internal fault. A pressure relief valve may be integrated with the internal fault indicator.

An adjustable trailer underbody fairing for a trailer having an adjustable rear wheel assembly and a corresponding tractor unit having rear wheels, the fairing including first and second fairing sections attached to the rear wheel assembly and trailer, respectively, and an adjustable fairing panel coupled to the first and second fairing sections that extends and collapses as the rear wheel assembly is moved to present a planar fairing surface at all times. The fairing can be selectively raised to provide access beneath the trailer.

A new and unique, optimized, two-dimensional heart valve tissue pattern, valve, and a method of reconstructing a three-dimensional semilunar heart valve, or portion thereof. In one preferred embodiment, the two-dimensional valve tissue pattern, and method of the present invention, comprises a two-dimensional configuration developed and optimized by employing, in part, the anatomy of a three-dimensional human heart valve, and said two-dimensional configuration delimits a two dimensional area that corresponds to the shape of tissue to be used in the repair of at least one leaflet of a circulatory system semilunar valve, wherein the configuration delimits at least one segment, and up to all three segments, of a three segment &ldquo;trefoil&rdquo; shape.

Optimized geometry of a tissue pattern for semilunar heart valve reconstruction

A method of assembling a heart valve is provided for use with an inner and a spreadable outer stent. The outer stent is mounted onto a spreading tool including a spreading ring, and expander, and a plunger. A protective cap is placed over the outer stent and plunger to prevent relative rotation of the outer stent to the expander prior to the complete spreading of the outer stent. The inner stent, with tissue wrapped thereon, is mounted onto an insertion tool including a mandrel having a plurality of guide rails for mating with slots of the spreading ring, wherein the guide rails in the slots provide axial and radial alignment of the inner and outer stents. The mandrel holding the inner stent is inserted through the spreading ring holding the outer stent, thereby releasing the mated stents from the spreading ring and mandrel and securely clamping the tissue between the stents.

Heart valve assembly method

The present invention provides a prosthetic heart valve holder specifically configured to hold a prosthetic heart valve comprised of a stent. The heart valve holder assembly has three main components: a handle, a valve capture loop assembly and a valve retainer. The prosthetic heart valve is secured to the valve retainer by a loop of suture as the surgeon sutures or attaches the valve to the annulus of the heart. Thus, the valve holder assembly facilitates attachment of the prosthetic valve to the annulus so that the procedure may be performed in a time and labor efficient manner.

An assembly tool for a bioprosthetic heart valve is disclosed. The tool assembles a valve having an inner and a spreadable outer stent, and includes a spreading ring with an elevated lip to hold the spread outer stent, an expander having fingers which contact the outer stent base to spread it apart, and a plunger to spread the fingers of the outer stent. An assembly mandrel having indexing rails allows the insertion of the inner stent into the spread outer stent while maintaining the correct rotational positioning of both stents. A shedding cap protects the tissue wrapped on the inner stent from abrasion during insertion.
