Disclosed herein are gypsum-free cement compositions comprising portland cement, limestone and an amine salt of formic or acetic acid. The compositions exhibit compressive strength comparable to ordinary portland cement compositions containing gypsum and the setting properties of the compositions can be regulated.

Gypsum-free cement compositions

The compressive strength of a hydrated hydraulic cement composition such as Portland cement concrete is enhanced by the addition of a very small amount of certain select synthetic non-ionic surface active agents to the compositions.

Method of enhancing the compressive strength of hydraulic cement

An improved additive composition for accelerating the rate of hydration and increasing the compressive strength of hydraulic cement compositions such as Portland cement concrete contains a chloride, formate or nitrite salt set accelerator, an amine and a small amount of a certain select synthetic non-ionic surface active agent.
