A rotary magnetic field device for use in a dc motor or generator, or an ac motoer or generator. The device has a permanent magnet rotor, stator field windings and an outer cylindrical stator piece preferably being a continuous wire wrapping. The stator wire is magnetically permeable (silicon iron or steel). The stator wire, being transverse to the magnetic field assures low eddy current loss. The rotor is a material having a high energy product (BH.sub.max) preferably a neodymium-iron-boron compound. When used as a dc motor, the motor is characterized by exhibiting no ripple and economy of construction.

Constant reluctance rotating magnetic field devices with laminationless

A disk/file for magnetic recording having overall dimensions of one quarter inch thick by about the size of a standard credit card with pin connectors for connecting into a receptacle such as for pc boards. The file features a multi pole rotor mounted on the rims of two disk and a stator divided external to and coplanar with the disks. An actuator features a 'wobble' disk rolling around the inside of a nest of electromagnets and turning a small increment with such excursion around the nest thereby turning the shaft of the head support to actuate the head from track to track. The head support arm includes two sections hinged together and engaged with a third link that orients the head to eliminate head skew. A magnet withdraws the head devices from the disk surface to avoid sticktion when the disks are stationary. The head devices feature thin film cores that are oriented flat to the surface of the disk.

Miniaturized disk file pluggable into a card terminal

A card-key device with an embedded microprocessor is able to communicate with a computer-based security system via an optical connection. The optical connection is made by linking a light-emitting diode with a phototransistor through a 'light tunnel' created by a mechanical connection. Electromagnetic sensors and grippers are used to assure each side of the connection that a valid connection has been made, as well as to supply power to the card-key on-board microprocessor. The card-key's on-board microprocessor can be used to retrieve an identifying number, to store data for the security system, or to perform other data transformation functions for the security system.

Disclosed herein is a magnetic transducer assembly including a plurality of magnetic cores affixed to a non-magnetic slider, the slider having a multiplicity of fluid bearing surfaces for supporting the magnetic transducer assembly on a fluid bearing proximate to a rotating surface such as a magnetic disc. Each magnetic core has a corresponding slider fluid bearing surface of equal width, the magnetic cores being affixed to the trailing edge of the fluid bearing surfaces. The slider provides additional fluid bearing surfaces intermediate the corresponding fluid bearing surfaces.

Isolated multiple core magnetic transducer assembly

A suspension device for a magnetic transducer including a spring member and a transducer attachment clip engaged by the spring member. Pivot means are disposed between the spring member and the attachment clip to define an axis of rotation. The device may include a retraction member adapted to engage the attachment clip and indexing means between the retraction member and the attachment clip to index the attachment clip when the retraction member engages the clip. The spring member and the retraction member may be integrally formed.

Magnetic transducer suspension device

Actuator apparatus is disclosed for positioning a plurality of magnetic heads transversely along a path which is substantially a radius of a rotating magnetic disc. The apparatus includes a parallelogram shaped supporting structure comprising a fixed inner member coupled to a movable outer member by a pair of resiliently deformable spring members. A suspension spring is mounted on the movable outer member and provides both gimbal support and pressure loading to a plurality of magnetic heads mounted thereon. The actuator apparaus further includes a continuous drive band affixed to the movable outer member and driven by a stepper motor for positioning the magnetic heads along the substantially radial path, thereby permitting information to be read from and written onto the various tracks of the magnetic disc.

Actuator apparatus for magnetic disc recording systems

A suspension device is disclosed which is formed from a single thickness of resilient material for urging a plurality of magnetic heads toward a moving magnetic surface. The suspension device comprises a base area adapted to be affixed to a support structure, a plurality of adjacent gimbal sets each having a first sinuous gimbal member and a second sinuous gimbal member, and a plurality of leaf spring members that join the gimbal sets to the base area. The sinuous gimbal members each further comprise a plurality of laterally adjacent gimbal legs.

Suspension device for magnetic transducers

A digital plotting system for displaying curved line information. This sym employs short vector information that provides an incremental trace of a curve that is defined by a variable exception vector that is dependent upon trend and exception vectors represented by ODD and EVEN bits described as binary 1's or 0's. When the bit is a binary 0, for example, the vector, whether ODD or EVEN, will continue in the same direction as the immediately preceding vector. However, when the bit is a binary 1 then the vector will change its direction clockwise 45.degree. when EVEN and counterclockwise 45.degree. when ODD, with respect to the immediately preceding vector. The short vector logic is compatible for use with a digital plotting system for displaying all forms of graphic information including curved lines, straight lines and characters.

Digital plotting system for displaying curved line information

A digital plotting system that receives and stores coded signals depicting raphic information for processing and display. The system processes three basic types of information which are short vector information, long vector information and character information. Together these three types of information can reproduce virtually any type of graphic information that is desired to be transmitted and displayed. The short vector information describes curved lines, the long vector information describes straight lines and the character information describes alphanumerics and symbols. The system employs effective data compaction techniques resulting in a substantial reduction of processed data as compared to facsimile processing. The system automatically stores and provides for sequential selection of the short vector, long vector and alphanumeric information for presentation. The short vector information provides an incremental trace of a curve and is defined by the variable exception vector that is dependent upon trend and exception vectors represented by ODD and EVEN bits described as binary 1's or 0's. The long vector information describes a long straight line starting from any point and extending in any direction and having a specific length. Its specific direction is implemented by an eight 45.degree. quadrant system wherein the specific angle within a particular quadrant is derived from either a vertical adjacent or a horizontal adjacent line. The alphanumeric information is defined by a logic system that describes the symbol from bottom to top and alternately from left to right and from right to left. At the end of each character definition the logic automatically returns the registers to the starting position for the next character.
