Articles and products for preventing or minimizing temperature increase of a person or object (see the figure). The articles include a base material, and at least one temperature-stabilizing material integral with and dispersed throughout the base material. The temperature-stabilizing materials can be phase change materials and have phase change temperatures. Products can contain a plurality of articles and each article can have a phase change temperature the same as or different than those of other articles in the product. Products include footwear, protective apparel and the like.

Temperature-stabilized articles

Highly uniform prepreg mats comprising inorganic fibers and powered ceramic matrix materials, useful for the manufacture of ceramic matrix composite articles, are provided by a process wherein continuous fiber tows infiltrated with a thermoplastic suspension of the matrix powder are preheated, uniformly collected on a heated drum or other support, and then cooled and compacted with a pressure roller or the like to achieve a prepreg mat structure characterized by a homogeneous distribution of fibers and ceramic matrix material.

Method for making ceramic composite article

This invention is directed to the making of ceramic articles through extrusion utilizing a self-cleaning, intermeshing, co-rotating, twin screw extrusion apparatus. The invention is particularly directed to the extrusion of honeycomb structures wherein the batch consists of cordierite or cordierite-mullite compositions with water and a hydroxypropyl cellulose binder/plasticizer having a viscosity at 20.degree. C. in a 2% aqueous solution between 25,000-100,000 centipoises. Preferably, the hydroxypropyl cellulose will have a viscosity of at least 50,000 centipoises such as to permit a working temperature during operation of the extrusion apparatus of at least 40.degree. C.
