Systems and methods for controlling breathing of a patient to maintain specified levels of CO2 in arterial blood. In one exemplary embodiment a respiratory conduit is configured to be coupled at one end to a patient interface device that is, in turn, coupled to the patient's breathing airway. The respiratory conduit is configured at the opposing end to be coupled to a pressurized air generating device. A control device is positioned in the respiratory conduit between the patient interface device and the pressurized air generating device and includes one or more vent apertures that allow a predetermined amount of exhaled air from the patient to escape from the respiratory conduit while retaining a predetermined fraction of the exhaled air to reintroduce to the patient during the next inhale. In this manner the system provides for a predetermined percentage of CO2 to be rebreathed by the patient.

The present invention relates to a respiratory tubing set for controlling breathing of a patient. A tubing set for controlling breathing of a patient includes a respiratory conduit. The respiratory conduit is configured to be coupled to a patient interface device and is further configured to be coupled to a pressurized air generating device. The respiratory conduit includes at least two airflow control devices, positioned between the patient interface device and the pressurized air generating device that cooperate to closely control the COlevels in the patient's bloodstream through the control of the patient's respiration.

A method and system for the analysis of a patient's oximetry data to detect sleep-disordered breathing is provided. The system employs an algorithm to reliably detect patient arousals and correlate those with accelerated heart rate and oxygen saturation levels in a manner that detects sleep-disordered breathing via the respiratory mask. Initially a timing channel is formed based on a plethsmography signal using an optical finger sensor. Based on the pleth waveform, a respiratory wave form is prepared that represents respiration rate. An arousal mask is applied to the signal based on attenuations in the pleth signal. Once arousals are identified the time required for changes to propagate from the lungs to the blood gas is subtracted from the onset time of the arousal. As a result if the timing agrees with dropping oxygen saturation or falling arterial pH then the arousal is indicated as a chemoreflex related arousal.

The present invention relates to a method and a system for controlling breathing of a patient. A mixing device extends from a patient interface to control a volume of exhaled gasses. The mixing device has a first orifice connected to and in fluid communication with a first control tube and terminating in a first variable flow control valve and a second orifice connected to and in fluid communication with a second control tube and terminating in a second variable flow control valve. Further a first volume extends between the first and second orifices. A controller then controls the volume of exhaled gasses from the patient using the first and second variable flow control valves.

The present invention relates to a method and a system for controlling breathing of a patient. A system for controlling breathing of a patient includes a respiratory conduit. The respiratory conduit is configured to be coupled to a patient interface device and is further configured to be coupled to a pressurized air generating device. The respiratory conduit includes at least two air flow control devices, positioned between the patient interface device and the pressurized air generating device. The respiratory conduit includes at least two volumes, wherein one volume is positioned between a first air flow control device and a second air flow control device and another volume is positioned between a second air flow control device and a third air flow control device.

A nasal interface device and a method of use are disclosed. The device includes a facial adaptor configured to be secured to the nose of a user and having two nostril pads having open channels configured to be inserted into nostrils of the user and a piercing/swivel adaptor configured to interact with the facial adaptor through the two nostril prongs. The piercing/swivel adaptor is further configured to be coupled to an airway tube, the airway tube is configured to supply air/gas to the user.

Nasal interface device

Minimal concentrations of CO2 are mixed with pressurized air to provide a gas mix effective for stabilizing breathing of target patients or users. CO2 concentrations below about 2% and preferably between about 0.5% and 1.25% are employed. A gas modulator includes a gas mixing module, a sensor and a control processor. The gas mixing module mixes plural gases, including CO2, into a gas mix, for delivery to a substantially leak-proof patient face mask. The sensor, located substantially at the face mask, measures CO2 concentration in the face mask. The control processor, based on a signal from the sensor, controls the CO2 concentration in the gas mix.
