Telecommunication equipment of the present invention includes a switch for receiving data from a plurality of ports and inserting a unique port identifier in the data from each port to identify the source port of the data. The equipment also includes a multiplexer coupled to the switch and operable to multiplex the data from the plurality of ports into a single serial data stream. A method of the present invention includes the steps of receiving data from a plurality of ports, adding a unique port identifier to the data from each port to identify the port from which the data came, and multiplexing the data from the plurality of ports into a single data stream for transmission.

The digitally controlled oscillator (24) receives a speed up signal (28) and a slow down signal (30) from a jitter accumulator (26) in order to adjust the clock rate of the output clock signal (22). The jitter accumulator (26) compares retimed read address information (32) to write address information (34) from the elastic store unit (12), subtracts an initial bias, adds the result to any previous sum, and compares this final result to programmable threshold levels in order to determine whether or not to assert the speed up signal (28) or the slow down signal (30). The clock rate of the output clock signal (22) is adjusted by a speed up factor, a slow down factor, or a nominal factor in response to the comparison of the read address information (32) and the write address information (34). The jitter accumulator (26) has programmable thresholds comprised of a lower threshold signal (72) and an upper threshold signal (76) to establish the rate of integration of the incoming jitter or wander. The asynchronous output data thus has a programmable logarithmically integrated frequency response.

A high density unit shelf (22) is provided for use with a digital switch such as a digital cross-connect system (10). The high density unit shelf (22) provides redundant interfacing capability and may be configured in a redundant configuration, a non-redundant configuration, or combinations thereof. The high density unit shelf (22) generally includes a plurality of network interface port pairs, such as a network interface port (52) and (56), a plurality of network connectors, such as a receive network connector (50) and a transmit network connector (54), a plurality of first matrix connectors, such as a matrix connector (70), and a plurality of second matrix connectors such as a matrix connector (72). The network interface port pair receives a first network interface card at the network interface port (52) and a second network interface card at the network interface port (56).

The control circuit may be implemented using a microprocessor and programmable logic devices.

Multiple rate network interface and method

A method and apparatus for processing a plurality of facility datalinks is provided. In particular, synchronizers (14 and 16) receive multiple facility datalinks and synchronize them. These synchronized signals are transmitted to FDL state machine (18). FDL state machine (18) separately stores each of the facility datalinks in a memory (20). A processor (22) accesses the facility datalinks stored within memory (20) and initiates responses based on the accessed facility datalinks.
