The present invention relates to shielded electrical cables and shielded electrical connectors to be affixed thereto, and in particular to the termination of the shielding braid provided at the electrical cable. According to the present invention, a shielding termination structure for engaging a shielding () of a shielded cable () having an insulated conductor () that is encompassed by said shielding is provided, said shielding termination structure () comprising: an electrically conductive shield body () for establishing an electrical connection between said shielding () and an electrically conductive interface (), fixing means () for securing said shield body () at the interface (); an electrically conductive spring element () that is arranged between said shield body () and the interface () for establishing the electric contact in a compressed state of the spring element ().

Shielding braid termination for a shielded electrical connector

An electrical one-piece double-ended receptacle contact includes a first and a second socket contact portion at opposed axial ends of the receptacle contact for receiving a first and a second respective mating pin contact. A compliant middle portion interconnects the two socket contact portions. The tube wall has an axial slot extending over its length. A first and a second circumferential slot divide the tube length. The circumferential slots are axially spaced from each other by a middle section of the tube. Each of the circumferential slots has a first circumferential end between the middle section and the associated one of the socket contact portions, and a closed second circumferential end which has a predetermined circumferential distance from the axial slot so that the remaining wall portion between the axial slot and the closed second circumferential end of the respective circumferential slot forms a web connecting the middle section to the associated one of the socket contact portions. The axial length of the middle section and the circumferential and axial extensions of the webs are dimensioned to allow three axis compliance of the contact, at least reducing relative movements between the socket contact portions and the mated pin contacts.

An interconnection system is for interconnecting sensors, such as temperature gauges for controlling industrial processes, to a bus cable that interconnects the sensors to a central computation unit. The connection assembly comprises edge card connectors for connection to electronic modules having printed circuit boards. The plurality of modules are interconnected to the ribbon cable bus by a printed circuit board, and a connector mounted on the PCB and pluggable with a bus connector terminated to the cable.

Interconnection system for electronic controllers to a bus

A coaxial electrical connector (2) comprises a pair of half shells (4 and 6) each having a shield forming part (12) which is semi-circular in cross section and defines a swept rectangle. The half shells (4 and 6) are assembled to a dielectric insert (8) having an axial slot (34) receiving a center pin (10), so that the shield forming portions (12) of the half shells enclose the insert (8). Tabs (26) and (28) on one half shell (4) are bent down into notches (30 and 32) in the other half shell (6) to secure the half shells (4 and 6) about the insert (8). Each half shell is connected in side by side relationship with a plurality of identical half shells by means of a carrier strip (42) for conveying the half shells to an assembly station AS. One or both of the carrier strips (42) is allowed to remain connected to its respective half shells until a desired multiplicity of the connectors (2) have been assembled. The strip of connectors (2) so provided, is wound about a storage reel for mounting on a stitching machine for severing the connectors (2) from the carrier strip or carrier strips (42) and loading the connectors (2) into insulating housings.

Coaxial electrical connectors and their manufacture

An electrical connector assembly is shown having two connector members. The first connector member is a shell having electrical terminals mounted therein. The shell can be fixedly mounted to a base. The second connector member includes a body portion (20) which includes a second plurality of terminals which are matable with the first set of terminals. The second connector member includes a locking ring assembly (130) comprising a forward lock ring (50), a center stop ring (70) and a rear lock ring (100). A lanyard (40) is fixed to the connector body yet resides within a groove (84) of the center stop ring (70). Tension on the lanyard (40) causes a camming effect between the lanyard (40) and the stop ring (70) and causes the stop ring (70) to rotate, thereby disconnecting the first and second connector members.

Breakaway electrical connector

The connector has a body part (4) of good electrical conductivity and which is of U-shaped cross section. A pair of wings (18) extend from one or both ends of the side walls (16) of the body part (4) and define a wire slot (20). The wings (18) are not connected to the base (12) of the body part (4), so as to allow the side walls (16) of the body part (4) to be deflected away from each other. A U-section spring (10) receiving the part (4), and being separated therefrom, resiliently restrains deflection of the side walls (16) of the body part (4) away from each other, when a wire (W) is inserted into the wire slot or wire slots (20). The spring part (10) stores energy so as to maintain the integrity of the electrical connection between the edges of the slot or slots (20) and the core (C) of the wire (W), despite temperature cycling. The spring characteristics of the spring part (10) can be selected to achieve a desired contact force.

A one-piece, stamped and formed C-section locking clip for insertion into aligned holes (H1 and H2) in a superposed metal plate (P) and circuit board (CB) to secure them together for soldering the clip to the plate (P) and to a ground plane (G) on the board (CB) comprises a body (2) having a resilient and compliant larger diameter portion (6) for reception in the hole (H1) in plate (P), a smaller diameter portion (12) for reception in the hole (H2) in the board (CB). A spring (16) extending from the upper edge (8) of the body (2) extends for substantially the full length thereof and has at its lower end an outwardly bowed part (22) for engaging the ground plane (G) and holding the locking clip in position for the soldering operation.

The interface between a pair of mateable electrical connector housings (1) is sealed by means of an apertured resilient gasket (14) which is urged into tapered grooves (10) surrounding cavities (3) in one housing (1) by ribs (13) surrounding associated cavities (3) in the other housing (1), the gasket (14) being compressed between the ribs (13) and groove (14) walls while also being stretched about the ends of the ribs (13). -

Electrical connector assembly

An insulating housing has therein a sealing ring having a central peripheral groove. An electrical terminal connected to an electrical lead can be inserted into the housing through a bore in a cap in the housing and through sealing. The cap can then be driven inwardly of the housing to compress the sealing ring and thus to collapse it, to cause the sealing ring to form a seal between the housing and the lead, the cap being retained in its inward position by the engagement of lugs on the cap in windows in the housing.

Lead sealing assembly

An electrical connector housing (3, 4) is sealed at its conductor-entry face by means of a sealing member (14) which is compressed against the face and into engagement with a shroud (12) surrounding the face and with conductors (8) passing through holes (15) in the sealing member (14), by means of a lid (17) which is latched to the shroud (12). The sealing member (14) when compressed is also engaged by terminals (6, 7) terminating the conductors (8) and prevents back-out of the terminals (6, 7) from their passageways (5) in the housing (3, 4).

Electrical connector

A two part connector has latch arms (4) and ramps (3) which latch together to give positive mating in known manner. To facilitate release the arms (4) are depressible in the mated condition to allow withdrawal of latch projections (6) below ramps (3). Resilient stop fingers (15) may be provided to inhibit mismating.
