Electrical cable assemblies formed by joining two halves or sections with each section having grooves extending from end to end and outwardly projecting ribs alongside the grooves with the grooves and ribs on one section being laterally shifted relative to the other section so that when the sections are brought together, the ribs enter facing grooves on the opposing sections to cooperatively form passageways for electrical contacts positioned in the grooves. A fixture useful in assemblying the electrical members and a method are also disclosed.

Apparatus for semiautomatic termination of conductors of a ribbon cable to electrical terminals of an electrical connector having conductor receiving cavities located on opposite sides thereof. In operation the apparatus combs and shears individual conductors of the ribbon cable. The comb means cooperates with the individual conductors adjacent the dielectric jacket of the cable, ensuring that the individual conductors will be combed and spaced as required for termination to the terminals. The shear means is retracted, leaving the comb means in contact with the conductors, maintaining the position of the conductors until the connector is brought into place. A shuttle then places the connector in engagement with the conductors. The comb means is retracted, permitting the conductors to be positioned in alignment with terminating sections of the terminals which in turn allows for insertion and crimping of the conductors to occur. A unique feature of this assembly is that as the conductors are sheared, they are also preformed to enable the connector to be easily inserted along the preformed conductors.

Semiautomatic termination apparatus for ribbon cable

A tool for aligning contacts of an electrical connector with conductive areas of a circuit board comprises a base member with comb means movably secured thereto. The comb means are movable between a first position and a second position to cooperate with the contacts of the connector to insure that the contacts are precisely aligned as the circuit board is inserted into the connector. Securing and alignment means are provided to allow the comb means to easily adjust to the contacts of individual connectors. As the comb means is brought into engagement with the contacts a space bar is provided to prevent the contacts from entering the recess into which the circuit board enters. The contacts are maintained in position as soldering occurs, ensuring that a positive electrical connection is affected.

A tool for aligning contacts of an electrical connector with conductive areas of a circuit board comprises a clamp for clamping the connector therein, a slide is movably mounted on the clamp and includes a comb between the teeth of which the contacts are disposed, and adjustment means moves the slide and comb thereby causing the comb teeth to move the contacts so that they are positioned in alignment with the conductive areas.

Apparatus and method for preparing end of coaxial cable having foamed TFE primary insulation comprises steps of engaging first blades to make a first cut completely through the outer insulation and braid, then withdrawing the blades before making a second cut which penetrates only the outer insulation, then pulling the cable against the second blades to remove slugs of outer insulation and braid as an unit. Braid is subsequently flared by rotating a tool against the exposed braid, and primary insulation is axially compressed to expose the signal conductor.

The invention relates to a tool and a method for simultaneously staking a plurality of wires into an electrical connector of the type having two rows of contact members, one row overlying the other. More particularly, the tool includes a connector support assembly on the moving ram member. This moving assembly holds the connector so that the openings of the wire-in-slot blades face downwardly. A wire support assembly is positioned on the lower, stationary member. The wires to be staked into the contact members are dressed across a series of plates having functionally-related posts and slots. The connector is brought down onto the stationary assembly which supports the wires so that the wire-in-slot blades may be pushed onto them. Both assemblies include lateral restraining members which confine the blades during the staking operation.

A connector for terminating the wires of a flat cable directly into slots in plate-like terminal portions of contacts which are contained in said connector and without the use of solder. Two or more rows of the slotted terminals are arranged on a flat bed surface of the connector housing with the said slotted terminals extending vertically upwardly from said bed surface and further with the slotted terminals in a first row being interleaved with the slotted terminals in the second row. In addition to the slotted plate-like terminals, each contact comprises a second terminal means, such as a female receptacle, for receiving a terminal post from an external source. The contacts are designed in two different configurations which enables the receptacle portion of a contact of a first configuration to be positioned directly over the receptacle portion of a contact of the second configuration, while permitting the slotted plate-like terminals to be interleaved on the bed surface of the connector housing. The wires of the cable are simultaneously moved downward into desired slots in a single motion to perform the gang termination of such wires.

Connector for terminating a flat multi-wire cable

This invention relates to a connector for ribbon coaxial cable of the type wherein each center conductor is surrounded by dielectric and a foil shield and each foil shield has a drain wire. More particularly, the connector includes a plurality of contact members each of which consists of an opposing cantilever contact spring section for mating with contact elements of other electrical circuits, a dual-in-line terminating section for receiving either the center conductor or the drain wire and a housing to hold the plurality of contact members.
