The present invention provides an apparatus and a method for manufacturing a wheel hub to reduce lateral run-out. Specifically, the present invention provides an apparatus and a method for machining the inner and outer surfaces of the wheel hub after the wheel bolts and bearing have been attached to the wheel hub. A grind wheel is used to finish an inner flange portion and outer flange portion of the wheel hub.

Wheel assembly and method for making same

A differential assembly and method of manufacturing such an assembly are provided. A method for manufacturing a differential assembly includes forming a first portion of a differential carrier; forming a second portion of the differential carrier; securing the first portion to the second portion to form the differential carrier; forming a differential housing; and securing the differential carrier to the differential housing to form a differential assembly. A sintering process may be used to form the first portion and second portion of the differential carrier, and the first and second portions may be secured together by a brazing process. The forming of the first and second portions of the differential carrier and the securing of the first and second portions to form a differential carrier may be achieved by a sinter-brazing process.

This arrangement provides a flat flange surface () for mating with a rotor () to minimize brake run out. Knuckle hub assembly and method for making same

A pin retention and assembly system that is used with vehicles, such as, off-road vehicles is provided. The pin retention and assembly system has modular locking pins engaging a collar positionable about a bearing journal of a differential housing. Channels are formed in the bearing journal for receiving the locking pins. The channels aid in maximizing the size of the bearing journal. The locking pins engage the collar to lock the differential housing. In an embodiment, the locking pins and locking apertures in the differential housing are orientated asymmetrically causing the number of locking pins to be independent to the apertures in the side gear.

The present invention provides a differential housing assembly having a pinion shaft positioned therein. The differential housing assembly is capable of imparting torque to at least a pair of axle shafts of, for example a vehicle. The pinion shaft has a relief portion for receiving a portion of at least one of the axle shafts. The relief portion is capable of compensating for offset between the centerline of the pinion shaft and a centerline of a vehicle. In an exemplary embodiment, the relief portion allows the axle shafts to have equal lengths.

The present invention provides a differential housing having guide slots formed therein. The guide slots permit movement of pinion shaft axially therethrough. A plurality of apertures are provided in the housing for properly positioning a pinion shaft within the housing. The apertures further provide fluid communication between the exterior and the interior of the housing to aid in adequately lubricating the components within the differential housing.

A method for forming a brake assembly for a motor vehicle includes a wheel hub, a knuckle, and a brake rotor. The wheel hub includes a neck portion and a flange portion having a flange face. The flange face has a plurality of bolt receiving holes formed therein. The wheel hub is placed in rotational communication with the knuckle. The flange face of the wheel hub has a brake rotor secured thereto. The brake rotor has an inner surface, which is subjected to final finishing in order to reduce lateral run-out of the brake rotor.

A housing for a vehicle component and a method for making the same. The housing comprises a housing body having an interior surface and an exterior surface. The outer wall of the housing is formed with a plurality of longitudinal splines and a plurality of longitudinal troughs located between confronting splines. A spiral groove is cut into the interior surface of the outer wall so as to remove material sufficient to engage at least one of the troughs thereby forming a plurality of apertures having a closed periphery and extending longitudinally along the outer wall.

A part clamping fixture assembly for locating and holding a wheel hub assembly for final finishing a flange face of the wheel hub includes a top portion having a bore formed therethrough. The fixture assembly includes a puller member having an upper end for communicating with a drive mechanism and a lower end opposite the upper end. The puller member has an encasing disposed therearound. The encasing has a lower portion for engaging a bearing of the wheel hub assembly and an upper portion in communication with the top portion. The fixture assembly also includes a lift mechanism for lifting the wheel hub assembly generally upward such that a surface of the bearing engages the lower end of the puller member. The lift mechanism is engageable with the lower end of the puller member such that the drive mechanism will rotate the puller member and the lift mechanism together to accomplish the final finishing of the flange face.

A part clamping fixture assembly for locating and holding a knuckle/hub assembly, including a knuckle, a wheel hub and a bearing, for final finishing of a flange face of the wheel hub includes a top portion, a first housing portion, and a second housing portion. The first housing portion is intended to engage a first appendage of the knuckle and the second housing portion is intended to engage a second appendage portion of the knuckle. The fixture assembly also includes a puller member having an upper end for communicating with a drive mechanism in order to rotate the knuckle/hub assembly and a lower end opposite the upper end. An encasing is disposed around the puller member and has a lower portion for contacting the bearing. The fixture assembly also includes a lift mechanism for lifting the knuckle/hub assembly generally upward such that a surface of the bearing engages the lower portion of the encasing and such that the first housing portion and the second housing portion engage the first and second appendages respectively.
