Voice portal hosting system and method

Method for building a multimodal business channel between users, service providers and network operators. The service provided to the users is personalized with a user's profile derived from language and speech models delivered by a speech recognition system. The language and speech models are synchronized with user dependent language models stored in a central platform made accessible to various value added service providers. They may also be copied into various devices of the user. Natural language processing algorithms may be used for extracting topics from user's dialogues.

The plurality of tiers includes an input tier whereto a sequence of input speech vectors is applied at a first rate. A mobile robot includes an autonomous displacement device, a microphone, a loudspeaker, a mobile telephone module, and a voice analysis module able to interpret voice commands through the mobile telephone module to control the displacements of the mobile robot. The microphone is connected to the voice analysis module and thus also enables a human operator within earshot of the mobile robot to control the displacements of the mobile robot through voice commands.

A method to enable a user of a system to obtain access to one or more services, for example, to enable a caller to access some information on a remote server. The system first prompts the caller to identify himself by entering a subscriber code. A speaker verification is then made using a voice comparison between the caller's voice and a voice reference associated with the subscriber the caller claims to be. Access to the requested services is given if the outcome of said voice comparison is positive. If the system does not store a sufficiently good voice reference to verify the identity of the subscriber the user claims to be with a predetermined degree of reliability, the caller is prompted to enter a confidential PIN code. If the PIN code entered is correct, access to the requested services is given and a new voice reference is stored.
