Process for preparing a hydrocarbon product from a solid carbonaceous fuel (), the process at least comprising the steps of: (a) supplying a solid carbonaceous fuel () and an oxygen containing stream () to a burner of a gasification reactor (), wherein a COcontaining transport gas () is used to transport the solid carbonaceous fuel () to the burner wherein the weight ratio of COto the carbonaceous fuel in step (a) is less than 0.5 on dry basis.; (b) partially oxidising the carbonaceous fuel in the gasification reactor, thereby obtaining a gaseous stream at least comprising CO, CO, and H(); (c) removing the gaseous stream obtained in step (b) from the gasification reactor; (d) optionally shift converting () at least part of the gaseous stream as obtained in step (c) thereby obtaining a CO depleted stream, (e) subjecting the gaseous stream of step (c) and/or the optional CO depleted stream of step (d) to a Fischer-Tropsch reaction to obtain a hydrocarbon product ().

Improvements relating to coal to liquid processes

A process for producing a purified synthesis gas stream from a feed synthesis gas stream comprising besides the main constituents carbon monoxide and hydrogen also hydrogen sulphide, HCN and/or COS, the process comprising the steps of: (a) removing HCN and/or COS by contacting the feed synthesis gas stream with a catalyst in a HCN/COS reactor in the presence of steam/water, to obtain a synthesis gas stream depleted in HCN and/or in COS; (b) converting hydrogen sulphide in the synthesis gas stream depleted in HCN and/or in COS to elemental sulphur, by contacting the synthesis gas stream with an aqueous reactant solution containing solubilized Fe(III) chelate of an organic acid, at a temperature below the melting point of sulphur, and at a sufficient solution to gas ratio and conditions effective to convert HS to sulphur and inhibit sulphur deposition, to obtain a synthesis gas stream depleted in hydrogen sulphide; (c) removing carbon dioxide from the synthesis gas stream depleted in hydrogen sulphide, to obtain the purified synthesis gas stream and a gas stream enriched in CO.

Process for producing a purified synthesis gas stream

The invention is directed to a process to prepare a hydrogen rich gas mixture from a solid sulphur- and halogen-containing carbonaceous feedstock. The process involves the following steps. Step (a): gasification of the solid carbonaceous feedstock with an oxygen-containing gas to obtain a gas mixture comprising halogen compounds, sulphur compounds, hydrogen and at least 50 vol. % carbon monoxide, on a dry basis. Step (b): contacting the gas mixture with a quench gas or quench liquid to reduce the temperature of the gas mixture to below 900&#xb0; C. Step (c) contacting the gas mixture with water having a temperature of between 150 and 250&#xb0; C. to obtain a gas mixture comprising between 50 and 1000 ppm halogen and having a steam to carbon monoxide molar ratio of between 0.2:1 and 0.9:1. Step (d): subjecting the gas mixture obtained in step (c) to a water gas shift reaction wherein part or all of the carbon monoxide is converted with the steam to hydrogen and carbon dioxide in the presence of a catalyst as present in one fixed bed reactor or in a series of more than one fixed bed reactors and wherein the temperature of the gas mixture as it enters the reactor or reactors is between 190 and 230&#xb0; C. Step (e): carbon dioxide and sulphur compounds are separated from the shifted gas mixture obtained in step (d) by contacting the shifted gas mixture with a solvent comprising dialkyl ethers of polyethylene glycol.

Process to prepare a hydrogen rich gas mixture

A method and system for producing synthesis gas comprising CO, CO, and Hfrom a carbonaceous stream using an oxygen containing stream. A stream containing a carbonaceous material, and a stream containing oxygen are injected into a gasification reactor, where the carbonaceous stream is partially oxidized to obtain a raw synthesis gas. The raw synthesis gas is removed from the gasification reactor and directed into a quenching section wherein a liquid, preferably water, is injected in the form of a mist.

A process to prepare a paraffinic hydrocarbon from a solid carbonaceous feedstock, preferably coal by performing the following steps, (a) feeding an oxygen comprising gas and the carbonaceous feedstock to a burner positioned horizontal and firing into a reactor vessel, (b) performing a partial oxidation of the carbonaceous feedstock in said burner to obtain a stream of hot synthesis gas which flows upwardly relative to the burner and a liquid slag which flows downwardly relative to the burner, (c) cooling the hot synthesis gas by first cooling the gas to a temperature of between 500 and 900&#xb0; C. by injecting a gaseous or liquid cooling medium into the synthesis gas and subsequently second cooling the gas in to below 500&#xb0; C. by directly contacting with water,(d) separating solids from the cooled synthesis gas by means of a water scrubbing process step,(e) performing a water shift reaction on at least part of the scrubbed synthesis gas,(f) separating sulphur compounds, carbon dioxide and other possible impurities from the shifted gas to obtain a purified synthesis gas, and(g) performing a Fischer-Tropsch synthesis using the purified synthesis gas of step (f) to obtain a synthesis product comprising paraffinic hydrocarbons.
