An air intake system for intake air of an internal combustion engine comprising a filter insert ( ) in a housing ( ) connected to the air conducting system by a plurality of inlets ( ) and an outlet ( ). The air inlets are provided with individual intake nozzles or fittings and lead to a single common air chamber ( ) in the filter housing. The inlets ( ) can be individually opened and closed by flap valves ( ), thereby allowing the acoustics to be influenced favorably and enabling, for example, the respective intake fittings to be connected or disconnected depending on the temperature. The intake system requires only a limited number of components, and the design of the preferably wedge-shaped air chamber minimizes flow losses in the housing, which in turn decreases the intake noise. Shunt resonators ( ) can also be formed using cover elements ( ) and ( ).

Air intake system with an air filter

A duct system suitable for use as an intake manifold for an internal combustion engine, including flap valves ( ) for selective opening and closing of the ducts. The positions of the valves are continuously adjustable in order to produce a swirl in the flow of combustion air. To achieve this, a high degree of angular precision is required in the positioning of the valves. Intake manifold manufacturing tolerances need to be compensated during assembly of the valves. A valve adjusting mechanism is provided in mechanical couplings ( ) of the valve linkage between the position adjusting motor ( ) and the flap valves ( ).

Port system, especially an induction manifold for an internal combustion engine

A flap mechanism includes elements for compensating tolerances and shrinkage of the flap. The compensating elements include a flap edge which is applied to the flap by assembly injection molding after the flap has cooled, thereby decreasing any gap produced between the flap and a surrounding frame by shrinkage of the flap. In addition the flap has a flap shaft which can be journaled in the frame through a conical region on the shaft such that axial shrinkage of the shaft to produce a mounting which is free of play. This construction makes it unnecessary to use additional sealing elements at the mounting locations of the flap, and the flap is also prevented from vibrating in its mounting which, in a worst case scenario, could lead to destruction of the flap.

Flap mechanism

A duct system, especially an intake manifold for an internal combustion engine, having flap valves ( ) for selective opening and closing of at least some of the ducts. The valves should be continuously adjustable in position in order to produce a swirl in the combustion airflow. To achieve this a high degree of angular precision is required in the positioning of the valves. Intake manifold manufacturing tolerances need to be compensated during assembly of the valves. Valve adjusting mechanisms are provided on the axles of the valves or in the mechanical connections of the valve gear pertaining to the valve drive mechanism.

A suction tube with a switching element for longitudinal adjustment of different tube sections ( ), particularly a suction tube having a drum switch ( ). The invention provides for sealing strips ( ) or sealing rings ( ) which are supported inside the suction tube casing ( ). This results in a relative movement between the drum switch ( ) and the sealing elements fixed to the casing. The positioning of the sealing elements in the suction tube casing ( ) is advantageous for assembly and allows for better compensation of tolerances in the sealing gap between the drum switch ( ) and the suction tube casing ( ).

A process for manufacturing hollow synthetic resin bodies or objects in which cores are produced in casting molds, then placed into molds of injection molding machines, and subsequently enveloped with injected synthetic resin material (,) which then solidifies. The molds are then heated up to a temperature at which the cores melt and at which the molten cores can be removed from the molds. The cores are made of shell halves (,) which are assembled before the synthetic resin material (,) is injection molded around them.
