A reactor system includes a support housing having an interior surface bounding a chamber, the chamber having a vertically extending central longitudinal axis. A flexible bag is disposed within the chamber of the support housing and has an interior surface bounding a compartment. A mixing element is disposed within the compartment of the flexible bag. A drive element, such as a drive shaft, is secured the mixing element, wherein the mixing element is laterally offset from and/or is angled relative to the vertically extending central longitudinal axis of the support housing.

Stirred tank reactor systems and methods of use

A method of mixing a fluid includes positioning a flexible bag into the chamber of a support housing, the support housing having a plurality of baffles positioned so that the bag folds around the baffles. A fluid is delivered into a compartment of the flexible bag. A mixing element, such as an impeller, is moved within the compartment of the flexible bag so as to mix the fluid therein.

A reactor system includes a flexible bag having an interior surface bounding a compartment. An elongated tubular connector is disposed within the compartment of the flexible bag, the tubular connector having a first end and an opposing second end, the first end of the tubular connector being coupled with the flexible bag. An impeller is disposed within the compartment of the flexible bag and is secured to the tubular connector. A drive shaft is removably received within the tubular connector such that rotation of the drive shaft facilitates rotation of the impeller.

A probe assembly includes a tubular sleeve having a passage extending between a first end and an opposing second end. The tubular sleeve is movable between an extended position wherein the first end and the opposing second end are spaced apart and a collapsed position wherein the first end and the opposing second end are moved closer together. A connector is secured to the second end of the tubular sleeve, the connector having an opening extending therethrough that communicates with the passage of the tubular sleeve, a sealing layer removably covering the opening of the connector. An elongated probe has a first end and an opposing second end, the second end of the probe being positioned within the passage of the tubular sleeve, the second end of the probe being configured to pass through the opening of the connector when the sealing layer is removed therefrom.

Probe connector assembly and method of use

A mixing system includes a housing and a motor mount disposed on the housing and having a passage extending therethrough. A dive motor is coupled with the motor mount for selectively rotating the motor mount relative to the housing. A rotational assembly includes a hub having a passageway extending therethrough and a casing at least partially encircling the hub, the hub being rotatable to the casing. The rotational assembly is removably coupled to the housing so that the passageway of the hub aligns with the passage of the motor mount.

Mixing systems and related mixers

The present invention relates to a stirred-tank reactor system and methods of preparing such systems. The present invention further encompasses the use of the stirred-tank reactor system as a disposable bioreactor and in kits with disposable elements.

Stirred-tank reactor system

An apparatus and method for the in vitro culturing of animal cells, e.g., mammalian cells, to attain mass growth of the cells per se and/or to recover cell-secreted products of interest therefrom, in which an integral culture and gassing element is formed from spirally-wound or concentricallywrapped lengths of a liquid-impermeable, oxygen-permeable membrane envelope such that narrow cell culture spaces are formed between adjacent windings or wrapping of the envelope. Cells in the culture spaces, which spaces may optionally contain cell substrate material, are cultured in contact with a culture medium introduced into the spaces from an end of the element, and in contact with oxygen-containing gas supplied to the membrane envelope for diffusion across its oxygen-permeable walls into the culture spaces.

Method for culturing animal cells

An apparatus for the in vitro culture of animal cells to recover secreted proteins of interest therefrom, affording the capability of being readily and predictably scaled up or down to desired protein production rates, comprised of a housed arrangement of culture subunits containing a packed bed of carrier particles, each subunit being fed in parallel from a common culture medium source, and the spent culture fluid from each subunit being directed to a common spent fluid conduit within the housed arrangement. Scale-up or scale-down is effected by addition or subtraction of culture subunits and/or by increase or decrease in carrier particle volume within a subunit while maintaining substantially constant packed bed height.

Apparatus for culturing animal cells

A method of using an apparatus for the in vitro cultrue of animal cells to recover secreted proteins of interest therefrom, affording the capability of being readily and predictably scaled up or down to desired protein productin rates, comprised of a housed arrangement of culture subunits containing a packed bed of carrier particles, each subunit being fed in parallel from a common culture medium source, and the spent culture fluid from each subunit being directed to a common spent fluid conduit within the housed arrangement. Scale-up or scale-down is effected by addition or subtraction of culture subunits and/or by increase or decrease in carrier particle volume within a subunit while maintaining substantially constant packed bed height.

Method and apparatus for in vitro culture of cells in culture medium to produce a viable cell mass of cell number greater than the initial cell number, wherein a cell mass of particular cell number is cultured in a first oxygen-permeable culture sub-compartment to an increased cell number, and then aseptically transferred directly from the first sub-compartment to a next serial culture sub-compartment providing additional medium and/or culture space for further growth and reproduction to produce a viable cell mass of still higher cell number. Continued transfers are made, if necessary, to successive serial culture sub-compartment until a viable cell mass of desired cell number is attained, particularly one useful for seeding of a production-scale culture system.

Method for in vitro reproduction and growth of cells in culture medium

A liquid sampling device is provided for periodic aseptic removal of samples of a source liquid to be analyzed, comprised of a primary liquid conduit tube closed at one end and, at the other end, adapted to be in liquid communication with a principal or secondary flow line through which the source liquid flows or is arranged to flow, and a plurality of separate sample conduit tubes emanating from and in liquid communication with the primary liquid conduit tube, one end of each sample conduit tube being adapted to withdraw therethrough a sample of the source liquid. The device is configured such that, after a sample is taken through a particular sample conduit tube, that tube can be isolated or removed from the system, and subsequent samples are taken successively from remaining sample conduit tubes in the same manner.

Apparatus and method for periodic aseptic withdrawal of liquid samples

An oxygenator, particularly for proving oxygen and/or carbon dioxide or other gases to culture medium used in the in vitro culture of animal cells, comprised of a collection of elongate gas-permeable, liquid-impermeable tubes through which oxygen-containing gas flows and permeates through the tube walls to provide bubble- and foam-free oxygen gas to medium in contact with or in proximity to the tubes, the individual tubes having an outside diameter of less than about 1 mm and a wall thickness of from about 0.1 mm to about 0.25 mm, the tube collection preferably be radially spread apart at at least one point along its length.
