Disclosed and claimed herein are devices for the treatment of medical waste using high temperature and pressure steam. The devices combine both the sterilization chamber and the steam generating component. The devices may be self-contained and may be movable by one person of average strength and ability. The devices which are self-contained require no special installation, connections, plumbing or permanent or semi-permanent electrical connections. Disclosed and claimed herein are methods using the disclosed and claimed devices.

Devices for treating medical waste and methods of their use

An illuminator and a method for fabricating the illuminator are disclosed. The illuminator comprises at least a light source and a discriminator. The light source comprises one or more luminescent layers that substantially convert the energy of a primary electromagnetic radiation to an output radiation. The discriminator comprises one or more layers that substantially transmit the primary electromagnetic radiation to the one or more luminescent layers and reflect at least a portion of the output radiation from the one or more luminescent layers to the viewing hemisphere. A method for applying the illuminator to an object is also disclosed.

In order to provide a golf ball with a water immersion indicator, a golf ball with indicia or a particular recognizable color is overlain with an opacification layer that provides a mask over the indicia or the colored ball until such time as the ball has been immersed in water for a predetermined period of time affecting the ball's performance. The opacification layer when removed or otherwise made transparent, while providing for a change in the appearance of the golf ball upon water immersion, does not need to have a layer or indicia which changes color in reaction to the infusion of water. Rather the opacification layer is either removed or made transparent to expose an underlying colored surface or a surface bearing pre-determined indicia, thus to alter the appearance of the ball when it has been immersed in water for a period of time which affects golf ball properties. The subject system provides an easy way to make indicia visible upon water immersion since one does not have to create the indicia in response to water activation, but rather uncover already-printed indicia due to the removal or transparency of the opacification layer. Opacification reduction or elimination is accomplished through a number of physical processes involving a water-activated binder and either insoluble pigment particles, effervescing bubbles, the use of transparent oils, agglomeration or the complete or partial removal of the opacification layer.

In one embodiment, a microencapsulated dye layer is formed immediately below the final gloss coat, with controlled dye release causing a stained look to the ball after significant exposure to moisture. In another embodiment, the dye or ink is provided in pelletized form for ease of manufacture. In other embodiments, a dye, ink, or chemical is compounded with other materials and introduced into or applied onto the golf balls composite materials in a solid, liquid, or gaseous form. In still other embodiments imprints on the ball are made with a water activated ink which either appears or disappears upon the exposure of the golf ball to moisture.
