A method of triggering an action includes: determining that a mobile device is under water by: determining that an amplitude of a satellite positioning system (SPS) signal, or a wireless communication signal, or a combination thereof, received by the mobile device is below a threshold amplitude; or comparing data from a motion sensor of the mobile device with motion sensor data characteristic of entering water; or a combination thereof; determining that the mobile device has an action-inducing relationship to water; and taking the action in response to determining that the mobile device has the action-inducing relationship to water.

Swimming activity monitoring

A method of monitoring swimming activity includes: determining at least one of an actual relationship of a mobile device to water or an expected relationship of the mobile device to water; determining ranges to satellites, based on signals received by a satellite positioning system (SPS) receiver of the mobile device, in response to the signals being received by the SPS receiver when the at least one of the actual relationship of the mobile device to water or the expected relationship of the mobile device to water is a desired relationship of the mobile device to water; and determining a location of the mobile device based on the ranges to the satellites.

Techniques described herein address these and other issues by utilizing two or more sensors to take temperature measurements from which a temperature-differential or instantaneous temperature rate-of-change, can be determined. In turn, this can be used to make a highly accurate model of the relationship between the temperature, temperature-differential, and clock circuitry frequency, to accurately estimate the frequency rate-of-change for frequency correction/compensation.

A positioning method includes: receiving a positioning signal at a receiver from a positioning satellite; determining an angle of arrival of the positioning signal relative to the receiver; applying a phase correction to the positioning signal, based on the angle of arrival, to produce a phase-corrected signal; and determining a location of the receiver using the phase-corrected signal.

A method comprises receiving a data signal on a data channel and a pilot signal on a pilot channel, demodulating the received data signal and the received pilot signal to obtain a demodulated data signal and a demodulated pilot signal, generating a data stream by decoding the demodulated data signal, generating a feedback signal by encoding the data stream, and performing a measurement of a coherent sum signal comprising the coherent sum of (1) the demodulated pilot signal and (2) the product of the demodulated data signal and the feedback signal.
