A retention member ( ) for a card edge connector ( ) is provided for securing a printed circuit card ( ) in the connector. The retention member is formed as a spring clip having free ends ( ) secured to releasably attached to ends of the electrical connector. Tabs ( ) are received in notches ( ) to further secure the assembly. Slots ( ) are formed in the spring clip to receive corners of the printed circuit card. The spring clip may have bowed portions to further strengthen the retention of the printed circuit card. The spring clip is released from the connector by inserting a tool into lateral tool slots ( ).

Retention member for card edge connector

Connector 10 mountable to a mother board for mating with a daughter card (80,90) at a card-receiving slot (14). Connector (10) includes at least two key-receiving sites (30a,30b) along the length of the card-receiving slot (14), and a pair of switching contacts (40) at each site that are normally in engagement with each other, completing an indicator circuit of the mother board. A key member (50) is affixable to the connector at a selected one of the key-receiving sites (30a,30b) and includes an actuator arm (58) that disengages the switching contacts (40), breaking the circuit. The key member (50) prevents insertion of a daughter card (90) that is not programmed by having a notch (82) at the corresponding location.

A board lock (50) includes a body (52) having a connector engaging portion (54) and can tilevered beams (56) extending from opposite transverse edges thereof. The inner edges (62) of the beams (56) define a slot (64) therebetween that extends into an enlarged aperture (66) in the center of the body (52). Each of the outer edges (58) of the beams (56) include a protrusion (60) and further include a latching portion (68) at the leading end thereof.

A method for connecting two ends (34, 36) of a conductive member (32) to a circuit-bearing article (20) includes the steps of: selecting a conductive member (32) having two ends (34,36) adapted to be terminated to receptacles; selecting at least two heat-insensitive terminals (40), electrically connecting the terminals (40) to a respective circuit terminus (24) with a selected amount of fluid conductive material; and mating the conductive member ends (34, 36) to respective receptacles (44) of the terminals (40).

An RF conductive shield can be fabricated from, and adhered to, a nonconductive substrate in the following manner. The RF conductive shield is fabricated in a predetermined geometric shape on the nonconductive substrate. Once the RF conductive shield is fabricated, it is cut from the nonconductive substrate to produce a separate RF shield. Having a separate RF shield, it can be placed on the nonconductive substrate in a predetermined location and adhered thereto.
