A ram air fan assembly includes an outer housing. An inner housing is located within the outer housing. A motor is attached to the inner housing. An inlet tube extends between the outer housing and the motor. The inlet tube includes a straight first portion and a curved second portion. At least one of the two portions includes a perforated portion.

Inlet tube design

A ram air fan has a fan impeller and a motor. The impeller and motor are mounted within a housing. An inlet header delivers air to an inlet for the fan. An air supply system delivers air from an internal cavity of the inlet header to the motor and air bearings. The air supply system includes a conduit extending through the housing. A connection from the conduit extends from a J-shaped tube mounted within the inlet header. The J-shaped tube extends to a remote end, with a perforated member positioned on the remote end.

A cooling system for turbine starter lubricant includes one or more outflow transfer passages () extending from the turbine starter () to a secondary component (). At least one heat exchange passage () affixed at a first end to an end of an outflow transfer passage () of the one or more outflow transfer passages (), is located in the secondary component () having a lower interior temperature than the turbine starter (). One or more return transfer passages () are affixed to a second end of the at least one heat exchange passage () and extend from the secondary component () to the turbine starter (). Flowing a volume of starter lubricant () through the one or more outflow transfer passages (), the at least one heat exchange passage (), and the one or more return transfer passages () removes thermal energy from the volume of starter lubricant () and returns the volume of starter lubricant () to the turbine starter ().

A drive ring bearing has a body with a generally cylindrical outer peripheral surface, and a generally u-shaped cross-section, with over a circumferential portion of the body. A web defines the outer peripheral surface. Radially inwardly extending legs define the u-shape in combination with the web. A plurality of circumferentially spaced feet extend from the outer peripheral surface of the body to an inner peripheral surface of the body. In addition, a diffuser assembly incorporating the drive ring bearing, a compressor assembly including the diffuser assembly, and a method of mounting the drive ring bearing are also disclosed.

A motor driven assembly comprises a motor shaft, a rotor, a passage, and a corrugated fin heat transfer structure. The motor shaft is mounted for rotation about a rotational axis. The rotor is located radially about the shaft. The passage extends through the rotor alongside the motor shaft. The corrugated fin heat transfer structure is disposed within the passage radially aligned with the rotor.

An air bearing for a ram air fan includes a shaft having a first end portion that defines a cap end, a second end portion that defines a thrust shaft receiving end, and an intermediate portion extending between the first and second end portions. The cap end includes a cap pilot bore and the thrust shaft receiving end includes a thrust shaft pilot section. The thrust shaft pilot section has an outer diameter of between about 1.6032-inches (about 40.7212 mm) and about 1.6002-inches (about 40.6450 mm).

Refrigerant compressor

A vehicle motor system includes a motor that receives cooling fluid flow from two different cooling sources. A control, such as a valve, selectively changes the cooling flow between the two cooling sources in response to an operational state of the vehicle.

Motor cooling system

An electric motor cooling system is provided that includes a housing and first and second cooling sources that are different from one another respectively to provide first and second cooling flows. A stator is mounted in the housing and receives the first cooling flow. A rotor is rotatable relative to the stator and receives the second cooling flow. In the examples, the housing supports a journal bearing upon which the rotor is supported, and the second cooling flows through the journal bearing. The first cooling flow is provided by a low pressure source such as ram air, and the second cooling flow is provided by high pressure source such as bleed air, for example. A circumferential gap is provided between the rotor and stator. In one example, a seal is arranged between the housing and a stator for providing a cavity in fluid communication with the journal bearing and the gap. The cooling flow from the journal bearing passes through the cavity and into the gap for cooling the rotor. In another example, the rotor includes circumferentially spaced magnets providing spaces. The spaces are arranged interiorly of an exterior surface of the rotor. A passage is in communication with the spaces and journal bearing. The second cooling flow from the journal bearing passes through the passage and into the spaces for cooling the rotor.

An electrical connection for securing multiple wires within an interior of an electrical connector barrel includes the use of a spacer which is received within the barrel, and which includes guiding spaces to position the plurality of wires.

A shaft assembly includes a metallic portion and a ceramic portion. In a disclosed example, a ceramic shaft has a generally conical end that is at least partially received within a generally conical recess in one end of a metallic shaft. The recess has a first portion that has an inner surface that is received directly against a corresponding outer surface on a section of the ceramic shaft conical portion. A second portion of the recess is radially spaced from the ceramic shaft and provides a controlled gap within which a braze alloy is maintained. In one example, the second portion has an axial length that is more than twice a radial depth of the second portion. In another example, a transition surface between the first and second portions of the recess has a linear profile.

Ceramic-to-metal shaft assembly

A diffuser includes multiple vanes rotatable about pivot pins between multiple positions. A mounting plate supports a backing plate. The vanes are arranged between the backing plate and the shroud. The pivot pins are in a slip fit relationship with the backing plate, vanes and shroud and are threadingly received by bosses in the mounting plate. The mounting plate and pivot pin arrangement better enables the backing plate and shroud to remain parallel with one another during deflection of the backing plate and/or shroud. Structure, such as integral protrusions and/or bolts, extend from between the backing plate and shroud through apertures in the vanes to better contain the vanes in the event of a catastrophic failure.
