Substituted 5-phenyl-2,3,4,5-tetrahydro-1,4-benzoxazepines of the formula ##STR1## wherein R.sup.1 and R.sup.2 are each methyl or, when taken together with the nitrogen to which they are attached, represent pyrrolidino, R.sup.3 and R.sup.4 are the same or different and represent hydrogen, chloro, fluoro, bromo, iodo, nitro, (lower)alkyl, trifluoromethyl, (lower)alkoxy, trifluoromethoxy or (lower)alkylthio, and n is an integer from 1 to 4, and their nontoxic pharmaceutically acceptable acid addition salts, are valuable analgesic and/or antitussive agents.

Substituted 5-phenyl-2,3,4,5-tetrahydro-1,4-benzoxazepines

Compounds of the formula ##STR1## wherein R.sup.1 is Cl, Br, (lower)alkylthio or ##STR2## in which R.sup.3 is H or (lower)alkyl including the racemic mixtures and the dextrorotatory and levorotatory isomers, and the pharmaceutically acceptable non-toxic salts thereof have been found to enhance the learning capacity of mammals, including man, and to improve the mental alertness and attitudes of geriatrics without producing the undesirable stimulant side effects associated with the use of amphetamines.

2-Amino-1-(2,5-dimethoxyphenyl)-butanes

Substituted 2-aminomethyl-4-phenyl-1,3-benzodioxans and derivatives thereof have been found to possess valuable anticonvulsant and antiarrhythmia activity in mammals. For example, cis-6-chloro-2-methylaminomethyl-4-phenyl-1,3-benzodioxan hydrochloride possesses potent anticonvulsant activity while cis-2-isopropylaminomethyl-4-phenyl-1,3-benzodioxan hydrochloride has potent antiarrhythmia activity.
