A comminutor for reducing the particle size of solid waste is provided. The comminutor includes at least two shafts, each fitted with a cutting element. A top portion of each of the shafts is rotatably mounted to a top housing and a bottom portion of each of the shafts is rotatably mounted to a bottom housing. The comminutor also includes a first shaft support disposed between the top portion and the bottom portion for rotatably supporting each of the shafts and a vertical support member attached to the top housing and the bottom housing, the first shaft support being coupled to the vertical support member.

Each of the cutter stacks comprises a central shaft journaled for rotation and aseal-bearingassembly/module at each end of the central shafts. Eachbearingassembly/module comprises an end housing, and a pair of insertable pre-assembledseal-bearingelements/assemblies mountable in each of said end housings. Oneseal-bearingelement/assembly has a thru-hole for journaling a first shaft for rotation and a secondseal-bearingelement/assembly has a thru-hole for journaling a second shaft for rotation.

Seal bearing assembly for use in a solid waste comminutor

A system for transporting and dewatering solids in a fluid system. An auger is used to transport solids and provide first stage compaction. A dewatering plate having a restricted opening provides second stage compaction and dewatering. The auger maybe be shafted or shaftless. First stage compaction is achieved by a change in helical pitch of the auger immediately preceding the location of the dewatering plate.

An integrated system for diverting and reducing the size of waste materials in an effluent stream comprising a frame having a bottom housing and a top housing and mountable in the stream. A grinder unit is mounted to the frame bottom housing and comprises a cutter assembly positioned in the stream and a drive mechanism coupled to the cutter assembly to rotate the cutter assembly. The drive mechanism may be electric or hydraulic. A diverter unit is mounted to the frame. It may be a single diverter or dual diverters. The diverter unit comprises a cylindrical drum rotating on a stub shaft. It may also be a helical coil. A drive assembly operably couples the drive mechanism to the drum shaft to rotate the cylindrical drum as the cutter assembly rotates. In operation the diverter unit is positioned side by side to the grinder unit to diverts solids in the effluent stream toward the grinder unit for size reduction. Side rails are employed for flow control around both the diverter unit and the grinder unit.

The screen unit comprises a cylindrical screen rotating on a screen shaft having a screen shaft mounted on bottom housing of the frame and supporting the cylindrical screen. A drive assembly operable couples the drive mechanism to the screen shaft to rotate the cylindrical screen as the cutter assembly rotates. In operation with the screen unit positioned adjacent to the grinder unit it diverts solids in the effluent stream toward the grinder unit for size reduction. An auger-screen may be placed downstream for removal of large solids after size reduction.

One bearing assembly has a thru-hole for journaling a first shaft for rotation and a second bearing assembly has a thru-hole for journaling a second shaft for rotation. The housing has an inspection port at the top to allow for tightening of the cutter stack. The device employs side rails having interleaved and smooth portions to guide solids to the cutter stack and to accelerate the flow of fluid around the outside of the cutters.
