A retention housing for receiving at least one load transfer member is provided. In some embodiments, the retention housing and load transfer member may be included in a sandwich wall panel or a double wall panel. The load transfer member may transfer loads between first and second concrete elements. The retention housing may include first and second retention members, at least one guide member, and a size indicator for aligning the retention members with respect to each other. The guide member may retain the load transfer member at a predetermined angle. In some embodiments, the size indicator may correspond to the thickness of an insulation layer, such as in a sandwich wall panel. The retention housing may further include at least one depth locating means. A retention housing including first and second retention members may further include means for connecting the first and second retention members, such as in an aligned position.

Load transfer device

A load transfer device is provided to connect concrete elements including, but not limited to, sandwich and double wall panel wythes, roof, floor, balcony and canopy members, and pavement. The device may be used to connect and transfer loads between the components of sandwich and double wall panels. The device includes two load transfer members positioned at an angle with respect to one another. Additionally provided are a retention housing for retaining one or more load transfer members at their angled positions and a depth locating means for retaining one or more load transfer members at their proper depth. Also provided are sandwich wall panels and double wall panels employing the load transfer device and methods for manufacturing sandwich wall panels and double wall panels employing the disclosed load transfer device.

A form tie for use in constructing building components and structures, including but not limited to concrete walls, concrete sandwich walls, and concrete foundations is disclosed. The form tie includes a central body portion and two end portions. The two end portions each include a taper that decreases in width inwardly toward the center of the form tie. Also disclosed is a clamp device for releasably securing the form tie to a form assembly. The clamp device includes a tapered passageway that grips a taper of the end portions of the disclosed form tie. Also disclosed is a form assembly including a first form wall, second form wall, and at least one form tie and clamp device of the present invention.

Taper-ended form tie

Wide-body connectors are provided for concrete sandwich walls. Each connector includes a body with longitudinally thickened portions defining flanges and a thinner inner connecting web extending between the flanges. The flanges provide increased bending stiffness for the connector, while the web provides enhanced shear transfer between the concrete layers of the wall. Anchoring surfaces are formed into or overmolded onto the body to anchor the ends of the connector in the concrete layers of the wall and assist in the creation of end moments ofr the transfer of forces between the concrete layers. Preferably, a lip is provided on the connector to limit the penetration of the connector through the insulation layer of the wall. The connectors transfer forces between the concrete layers, without thermal bridging, such that the wall has a substantially composite character.

Wide-body connector for concrete sandwich walls

A concrete forming apparatus having an inside form panel and an outside form panel spaced opposite from the inside form panel to create a gap into which plastic concrete will be placed and cured. A sheet of rigid insulation of a reduced height less than the height of the form panels is placed in the gap. A plurality of tie sleeves are pre-inserted through the insulation at regular intervals. A plurality of form ties are releasably connected to at least one of the form panels and extended through the tie sleeve to support the reduced height sheet of insulation at the desired vertical position. The tie sleeve strengthens the insulation in the area of the form tie and prevents damage to the insulation and prevents vertical movement of the insulation during placement and curing of the plastic concrete.

A symmetrical load transfer device for use in insulated concrete wall panels. The symmetrical shape allows for forces induced in manufacturing, transportation, installation and nature to transfer through the device equally to both concrete wythes of the wall panel. The load transfer device is preferably made of a thermoplastic or thermoset resin matrix incorporating continuous filaments, such as glass rovings. The low thermal conductivity of the matrix of filaments and resins greatly reduce thermal bridging of the insulation layer while maintaining structural integrity of the wall panel.

Symmetrical load transfer device for insulated concrete sandwich wall panels

A fiber composite connector element for production of concrete cavity walls having a shaft with anchorage ends and one or more locating flanges. The anchorage ends provide bi-directional force transfer between the connector body and surrounding concrete. The connector may include a flange for orientation of the connector shaft perpendicular to a plastic concrete layer and for setting the depth of penetration of the connector into a concrete layer.

Concrete sandwich wall panels and a connector system for use therein

A through-insulation connector assembly for use in the construction of insulated concrete sandwich wall. The connector assembly includes a spool-shaped connector body comprised of two, interconnecting pieces and a tie that engages the connector body. The two pieces of the connector body are installed at the place of manufacture in a sheet of foam insulation board that will be used as the insulation layer in the construction of an insulated concrete sandwich wall.

Connector assembly for insulated concrete walls

A concrete sandwich panel is provided with a first dry-cast hollowcore concrete layer having pre-stressing strands, and a second concrete layer, and an insulation layer sandwiched therebetween. The insulation layer includes pre-formed holes. A tool is used to form holes in the first concrete layer aligned with the insulation holes. Adhesive is injected into the concrete holes, with connectors extending through the insulation layer and into the concrete holes. The adhesive, when cured, locks the connector in the hollowcore concrete layer. The upper concrete layer is cast over the insulation layer so as to embed the upper ends of the connectors. The plasticity of the upper concrete layer, which may result from vibration energy input to low-slump concrete, allows the concrete to consolidate around the upper ends of the connectors. When the concrete layers cure, the connectors tie the layers together to preclude excessive shear displacement between the concrete.

Dry-cast hollowcore concrete sandwich panels

By using a thermal insulation foam/film laminate wherein each major planar surface of a foam panel has a facer film bonded thereto that meets certain performance criteria rather than a foam panel by itself, composite walls that have a foam panel sandwiched between concrete layers can be made with fewer steps.

Extruded polystyrene foam insulation laminates for pour-in-place concrete walls

Precast insulated concrete wall panels are made by pouring a first concrete layer into a form. An insulation layer is then supported above the first concrete layer so as to create a space therebetween. The second concrete layer is then poured on top of the insulation layer before the first concrete layer has cured. Connectors are anchored in the first and second concrete layers so as to tie the layers together. After the first and second concrete layers have cured, the wall panels can be lifted, transported, and assembled into a wall structure. An intermediate layer of concrete can be poured into the air gap of the wall panels such that the panels define the form for the intermediate concrete layer and become an integral part of the wall structure. The wall structure may extend below or above grade and may be multi-tiered. The edges of the wall panels are contoured so as to interlockingly matingly engage when assembled into the wall structure. Notches may be provided in the upper edge of the wall panels so as to receive floor or roof joists.

Insulated integral concrete wall forming system

An insulated wall includes first and second spaced apart layers of concrete having a layer of insulating material sandwiched therebetween. Extending through the insulative layer are a plurality of spike connectors having their opposite ends protruding into the two concrete layers and having their central portions extending through the insulating material. On of the opposite ends of the spike connectors is pointed so as to permit it to be punched through the insulative layer. The opposite ends of the spikes each include a holding surface facing at least partially toward the central insulative layer and holding the concrete layers against movement away from the insulative layer. C-shaped connectors may also be used in a similar fashion with hook ends hooked over elongated cables extending within the two concrete layers so as to tie them together.
