The present invention is directed to an apparatus for reducing and constraining EMI (electronic magnetic radiation) emissions without affecting the internals of data storage system components. A baffle is attached to the exterior of the housing of a data storage system component by baffle mounts. The baffle is operable between a closed position, where the baffle blocks EMI emitted by connectors on the data storage system component, and an open position, where the connectors are not blocked allowing for servicing and cable management. The baffle may comprise an EMI absorbing material and be tuned to meet specific EMI requirements. The baffle mounts offsets the baffle from the data storage system component and the baffle includes a number of holes to allow airflow. The adjustable EMI baffling apparatus does not interfere with other mounted components while the data storage system component is mounted in a cabinet.

A blade-system computer component with a chassis and a blade. The chassis has a housing for a blade, chassis electrical contacts for making electrical connections to the blade, and two rails for engaging the blade along two sides of a length of the blade. Each of the two rails has a slider portion and a rack portion that both engage the blade, and are both disposed along an entire length of the two rails. The blade has blade electrical contacts for making electrical connections to the chassis, two glides disposed along the entire length of the two sides of the blade, where each of the two glides engage the slider portion of each of the two rails, and provide stability to the blade during relative movement between the blade and the chassis. At least one pinion engages the rack portion of at least one of the two rails, and provides dampening to the relative movement between the blade and the chassis.

The mounting chassis may have a plurality of computer drive guides, a plurality of cam pins, and a mounting chassis disengagement ramp. The computer drive apparatus may include a computer drive, a plurality of shoulder screws, and a computer drive handle. The computer drive apparatus may be mounted on the mounting chassis utilizing the shoulder screws guided by the computer drive guides and secured by the computer drive handle, the cam pins, and the shoulder screws. The computer drive apparatus may include a blade drive and be hot-swappable.

A system including an EMI shield. In an embodiment, the system includes a chassis with at least one bay for receiving a replaceable unit and a lip. The replaceable unit includes a housing and a faceplate. Further, a gasket is operationally coupled to the replaceable unit housing and the replaceable unit faceplate for reducing electromagnetic radiation emissions from the replaceable unit and chassis interface. The gasket may include four sides which are configured to provide a varying force-compression curve along the length of the gasket. Upon installation of the replaceable unit, the lip defined within the chassis compresses the gasket to provide a constant force per unit length and form an electromagnetic interference shield with uninterrupted electrical conductivity.

An electromagnetic interference (EMI) gasket for an electronic module comprises a valley feature formed on one side of an EMI gasket and a crown feature formed on the other side of the EMI gasket in order to complement the valley. One or more EMI gaskets are used to construct a shield across the opening of a module cage or rack. Each gasket forms a link in a series of modules, in order to complete a seal across the opening in the cage. A perpendicular pressure forces the module gaskets to center and align evenly as the crown and valley of the opposite features nest together. The modules can be then pressed together and the overlap of the crown and valley acts to center the alignment and create a pressure for satisfactory EMI grounding and the reduction of EMI leakage.

A vibration dampening mechanism for operative arrangement with a data storage media drive canister, having: a cantilevered dampening spring secured to a surface of, or integral with, a side of a housing for the drive canister. The spring has a free end that can extend over an aperture through the housing side. The spring can comprise a bent portion, having an outer bend surface, between a secured end and the free encl. When installed in a canister support structure, this outer bend surface will contact an under surface of the structure causing the bent portion to at least partially flatten; the free end may deflect into the aperture. Also, a storage media drive vibration dampening system for operation with a media drive canister support structure having: a cantilevered dampening spring secured to, or integral with, a side of a drive canister housing. And, a method of dampening the vibration of a data storage media drive in operation comprising the steps of: providing a cantilevered dampening spring secured to a surface of, or integral with, a side of a drive canister housing containing the media drive, the side has an aperture through it over which a free end of the spring can extend; and contacting an outer bend surface of a bent portion of the spring with an under surface of a canister support structure to cause the bent portion to at least partially flatten.

A ventilation unit for operative arrangement within an electronic apparatus. This unit has: an exterior side having a first exhaust port separated from, and located in stacked relationship with, a second exhaust port; and a first and second powered air mover, each having an intake side oriented at an angle greater than zero degrees from the exterior side. The first powered air mover intake side is in communication with the first exhaust port. One powered air mover can be located closer to the exterior side than the other. Gas, such as air, removed from the electronic apparatus can be drawn in through an intake side of the second powered air mover, then directed through a duct cover before it flows between a covered side of the first powered air mover and a support member side of the unit. The angle of orientation is preferably between twenty and one-hundred degrees. Additional powered air movers can be accommodated, each with a respective exhaust port. Also, a ventilation unit with an exterior side having first and second exhaust ports; the exterior side being adjacent a support member side to which a second powered air mover has been secured. A first powered air mover is included in communication with the first exhaust port. The first powered air mover can have a first covered side opposite an intake side. Gas drawn in through an intake side of the second powered air mover flows between the first covered side and the support member side before exiting the second exhaust port. Additionally, a method of venting thermal energy generated within an electronic apparatus through an exterior side of a ventilation unit operating within the apparatus. This method comprises the steps of drawing air in through a first intake side of a first powered air mover and out a first exhaust port of the exterior side, separately from drawing air in through a second intake side of a second powered air mover and out a second exhaust port of the exterior side located in stacked relationship with the first exhaust port.

The invention provides exemplary systems and methods for releasably securing a data storage device within a data storage system. In one exemplary embodiment, the invention comprises a cabinet which defines an enclosure. The data storage device is removably held within the enclosure. A cover is further provided which comprises a pivot end and a latch end. The pivot end is pivotally attached to the data storage device so that pivoting of the cover will release the data storage device at least partially from the enclosure. A cover latch is operably attached to the latch end, with the cover latch engaging the data storage device to prevent pivoting of the cover when the cover is closed.

An interlocking base for use with stacked interlocking electronic assemblies which increases the mechanical stability of the base-stack combination. The increased stability allows a stack of up to four electronics assemblies to be subjected to an inclination of 15 degrees from the vertical in any direction without falling over. The base is furnished with an AC power cord and an ON/OFF AC power switch to provide single switch control of the ACs power conducted to the electronic assemblies of the stack. Single switch control saves operator time and motion, and also prevents accidentally leaving one of the assemblies of the stack ON while turning all the others OFF at the completion of work.
