An exercise device for various exercises includes a pair of bridges on opposing ends of a relatively inelastic, flat central webbing/band/belt, with an elastic member extending from each bridge. The elastic members themselves may serve as grips (for hands, feet, ankles, arms, wrists, etc.), or separate grips (such as those of a handle) may be used. The elastic members include a pair of bulbs on opposing ends of a body, and may be secured to the bridges and handle grips via cradles (in which the bulbs may be lodged) and/or channels (through which the bodies may be passed). A user may push or pull on grips with hands or feet to stretch the elastic members while exercising. The elastic members are preferably exchangeable to allow the user to change workout intensity by swapping in elastic members having different elasticities/lengths that provide different resistances.

An exemplary exercise device includes a handheld force sensor with complementary male and female connectors extending from opposite sides thereof. The force sensor senses pulling and/or pushing forces exerted between the opposing sides. The male connector may be resistant to travel through the female connector except in limited orientations. The connectors allow the exercise device to interface with any mobile or immobile device having complementary connectors. Non-complementary connectors can connect with the exercise device through a body passage. Depending on devices interfaced with the exercise device, force readings can be taken during a vast variety of motions using different muscle groups during training, exercise, and rehabilitation/physical therapy in homes, schools, healthcare facilities, health clubs, etc. Force readings from the force sensor may be communicated via wired and/or wireless technologies to other devices for live (real-time) processing and display as well as additional historical analysis and reporting.

An exercise bar is configured to removably receive elastic lines, allowing its use in elastic resistance exercises, and/or inelastic lines, allowing its use in suspended bodyweight exercises. Separate grips, each being engageable by a hand or a foot, are also provided, and may be removably connected to the bar or to each other via one or more lines. Bar supports may also be provided to support the bar above the ground, allowing easy use of the bar to perform push-ups and other exercises.

Versatile exercise bars and handles

An exercise assembly includes an exercise handle with a grip base suitable for resting on a floor, and a grip elevated above the grip base. A user can situate the grip bases of a pair of the exercise handles on the floor, grasp their grips, and then perform push-ups. The grip bases can also be mounted to the top of a door or to other overhead structure, and the user can then grasp their grips to perform chin-ups. Preferably, this is done by providing a cradle which mounts to the door or other overhead structure, wherein the exercise handles may be firmly (but removably) nested into the cradles to mount them to the structure. The exercise handles may also bear passages or attachments for receiving elastic (or inelastic) cables for use in performing further exercises.

A strap attachment device includes a main body with a lower body end that has an opening suited for a strap. Based on its position, a cam lever at the opening of the lower body end holds or releases the strap, permitting adjustment of the length of the strap that enters the opening. Extending upward from the lower body end is an upper body end that is curved into a hook or any other shape appropriate for connection to an object. A flexible or translatable gate may extend from the main body so as to prevent the upper body end from inadvertently becoming detached from the object. Slip-resistance on the upper body end resists slippage between the upper body end and the object during side-to-side movements. Ends of the strap may include a loop or handle or connect to other devices.

Exercise bars and handles with interchangeable attachment of elastic and inelastic members

An exemplary exercise device descending from an elevated support (e.g., a bar or door frame) allows a user to insert a body part in a loop (e.g., a foot for pull-ups or a waist for push-ups) descending from an elastic resistance unit, which uses a variable number of stretchable elastic members between top and bottom connectors to reduce the effective weight the user has to pull/push up. Each of the resistance unit top and bottom connectors has several elastic member sockets, each socket having a socket passage extending through the connector. Each elastic member has an elongated portion between two member plugs sized to resist passing through the elastic member socket passages. Elastic members can be removably and replaceably installed by inserting a portion of each member plug within an elastic member socket, one member plug in each of the resistance unit top and bottom connectors.

Exercise device providing variable lift assistance during pull-up and push-up exercises

An exemplary exercise device includes a foot cuff and a hand grip separated by an elastic member. Rigid and flexible foot cuff sections define a foot passage for a foot. A foot cuff body passage in the rigid foot cuff section receives a foot cuff pivot having an enlarged portion and a plug. The plug is inserted in an elastic member socket, and is able to point in different directions as the enlarged portion pivots within the foot cuff body passage. The hand grip includes a hand grip channel for replaceably receiving the elastic member, which is removably secured to the hand grip using an impinger or by being wrapped about the hand grip and inserted in a groove. A user can insert a foot through the foot passage and grip the hand grip, stretching the elastic member between the foot and hand while walking, performing calisthenics, etc.

An exercise bar cord impingement assembly permits exercise in two modes, defined in terms of how cord anchoring is arranged. It also permits exercise to be conducted either with a stretchable cord and handgrip together connected to the bar's body or just the stretchable cord itself so connected. In either case, there are slots in the bar's body to slide the cord through. Specially shaped wells or nests accommodate impingement of the elastic cord and firm handgrip emplacement. The ends of the bar's body are preferably shaped into pipe bowl configuration disposed to insure a good fit and avoid torque.

The handhold of an exercise handgrip turns freely while seated between the open ends of the upwardly extending prongs. It can be easily removed by moving the specially formed end part of the handhold into an access opening wide enough to slip the end part through. In positioning the handhold's end part for this removal, it must be forcibly snapped through a narrow opening. By reversing the procedure, the handhold can easily be returned to its place of rotation. The specially formed end part of the handhold must, therefore, have a narrow neck-like portion to fit through the narrow opening but the end part must also be enlarged to keep it in place for rotation. Preferably, there is also a stem and ball unit in one of the prongs which swings into place to trap exercise sheeting, cord or other media within an opening at the handgrip's bottom portion.

The equipment is considered in paired aspect, one construction for each of the exerciser's hands. In one arrangement, a strapping loop for each is respectively run through both of two tunneled components&#x2014;a handhold and tethering anchor. To use it, the anchor is positioned on the opposing side at the top of a closed door so as to become trapped in place against the door and its frame. The exerciser grabs the handhold and performs chin-ups or other body suspension exercises by pulling upward along the door's face. A hand bracing assembly is optionally included to cushion the hands from excessive pressure against the door. If desired, the operator may also temporarily adapt the assembly to pull-type exercises.

Door mounted chin-up assembly

The operator exercises by gripping a palm bar in each hand. Each end of a static or non-stretchable line or cord is run through a tunnel within a respective palm bar and secured therein, usually with a knot. A pivoting impinger is installed within the palm bar so that its head swings into the bottom of the tunnel against the static line to keep it from slipping out of place. Each end of a different cord, a stretchable one, is anchored within the ends of the palm bar with its mid-portion, usually padded, arranged to snugly encircle the back of the operator's respective hand for support. The mid-portion of the static line runs through a pulley system which has an impingement strap connected to it for anchoring to a wall or door in any one of several ways.

Three types of exercise grips provide for pivot-anchoring of an impinging body within them so that the impinger heads engage stretchable or non-stretchable exercise media extending upward through their tunnels. The first is a handgrip, the second, an exercise spool used in the manner of cross-country skiing or vigorous walking and the third, an ankle crescent-shaped grip for lateral repetition exercises of the legs. An impinger is caused to swing down to press against exercise media emerging from the grip's tunnel to provide a reliable of connection. Proper anchoring of the impinger within the grip assures its continuing presence to make adjustments and avoids its loss or misplacement. The handgrip permits of anchoring either within the body's interior or at its exterior, in which case, the impinger stem is caused to extend through a window cut therein.

Impinged retention exercise assembly

A handgrip is modified to have a tethering window cut through one of its upright prongs so that the stem of an impinger can be extended through it to anchor the impinger at the outside portion of the handgrip. Anchoring is accomplished either by the extension of the impinger's tether pegs into sockets or apertures or by trapping the tether within a channel formed there. Once anchored, the impinger's head is positioned within the handgrip's cord tunnel where it becomes forced against stretchable or non-stretchable exercise media including stretchable exercise sheet.
