Described is a liquid inlet valve having a housing configured to receive the opening of a sample bottle, a valve, a nozzle positioned within the housing, and a tube that extends downwardly from the housing. The liquid inlet valve is useful for transferring liquid samples from a sample bottle to a solvent phase extraction (SPE) disk of a bottle extractor system for purposes of conducting environmental analysis.

Liquid inlet device

Solid phase extraction (SPE) disks may be manufactured by providing a suspension comprising glass microfibers and a suspension comprising one or more sorbents and forming a disk by combining the suspensions or by layering the suspensions. This may be followed by a drying procedure to create the finished disk. A disk mold including a collar and plug may be used to establish the size and shape of the disk. Examples of various constructions and processes for forming the disks are provided.

Solid phase extraction disk and method of manufacture

An apparatus or method for removing water and concentrating an analyte in solution, wherein the concentrated analyte sample is delivered directly to a vial, such as an autosampler vial that is capable of use in a gas chromatography autosampler.

Sample collection system and method

An apparatus and method for separating residual water from a solvent and removing a solvent. The apparatus may be sealed and automated. The method comprises providing a solution comprising solvent and residual water and an analyte. The solution may be passed through a membrane to reduce water content wherein an analyte is present at a first concentration. This then may be followed by removing solvent from the solution.

System for water removal and solvent evaporation

An apparatus and method for separating residual water from a solvent. The device comprises a reservoir containing a solution comprising solvent containing residual water, the reservoir having an opening to allow the solution to drain from the reservoir. A membrane layer is provided comprising a layer of fluropolymer material, said membrane material having a IPA Bubble Point of &gE;25 psi. The membrane is positioned in series with the reservoir opening. Vacuum is generated on one side of the membrane layer wherein the solvent containing water passes through the membrane therein removing water from the solvent to provide a solvent with a water level of less than or equal to 1.0 ppm.

Water separation from solvent

An evaporator comprises a base with a vacuum connection. A tray is fixed to the base, and has seating positions in which to seat pans which hold sample liquid. A transparent cover is attached to the base with a hinge. The cover fits over the tray and when closed forms a tight fit with the base and is in close proximity to the pans. The cover has inlets angled down at about 37&deg; to 42&deg; over each pan seating position such that when a vacuum source is connected to the vacuum connection, air from outside the evaporator is drawn in through the inlets and aimed toward the sample liquid in each pan such that the solvent evaporates. Pans are preferably commercially available pans which are about 70 mm in diameter and about 16 mm in height, and tapered outwardly towards the top. Preferably, the cover has two inlets for each pan, aimed in opposite directions, and on opposite sides of each pan, such that when air strikes the sample liquid it induces a swirling motion. The vacuum pulls the moisture-carrying air across the tops of the pans and out of the evaporator. Preferably, a heating unit is connected to the base below the tray and heats the sample liquid to a temperature within the range of 20&deg; to 70&deg; Celsius as set by a front panel control. The vacuum is turned off automatically when the cover is opened.

Evaporator

An improved automatic filtration and extraction device is disclosed which comprises a base defining at a top end a cavity area which tapers downwardly and inwardly from the top end to define a chamber for a portion and then defines a plurality of effluent outlets at the bottom end each extending from the chamber to an outer surface of the body. Seals are adapted to each of the effluent outlets and are moveable between a first closed position sealing the effluent outlet and a second open position to allow the passage of effluent through the effluent outlet. A filter is detachably and removably adapted over the cavity area. Various solvents are provided to the cavity area through a solvent provider. A circuit with programmable memory accesses and directs a sequence of events after an initial event. A vacuum connected to each of the effluent outlets each induces effluent flow through an effluent outlet while sealing all other outlets. A removable valve assembly attaches to the sample bottle such that the bottle and valve assembly may be removed as a single unit from the base. An extraction sequence may be manually interrupted for removal of the sample bottle to another station.
