A method of heating and cooling at least one zone of a passenger compartment in a vehicle includes the steps of (a) pumping a coolant through an auxiliary coolant loop, (b) changing a temperature of the coolant utilizing a first heat exchanger associated with a refrigerant loop via an expansion device in the cooling mode, and a second heat exchanger associated with the refrigerant loop and (c) moving air through a third heat exchanger through which coolant moves, that third heat exchanger positioned in the passenger compartment, and at least one vent positioned within at least one zone of the passenger compartment.

A vehicle includes a heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) system for heating and cooling a passenger compartment. The HVAC system includes a refrigerant loop and a coolant loop, and an auxiliary coolant loop for heating and cooling at least a portion of the passenger compartment. The auxiliary coolant loop includes a pump for moving a coolant, within the auxiliary coolant loop, through a first heat exchanger coupled to the refrigerant loop via an expansion device, a second heat exchanger positioned within the passenger compartment, and a third heat exchanger coupled to the coolant loop. A flow control valve controls a flow of coolant to the third heat exchanger. The temperature of the coolant within the auxiliary coolant loop is controlled utilizing the flow valve and the pump. The first and third heat exchangers may be in parallel for controlling the movement of coolant there between to control temperature.

A vehicle ventilation system includes an inlet duct incorporating a poppet valve. The system also includes an evaporator core, a heater core, an air discharge duct and a blower. The blower moves air from the inlet duct through at least one of the evaporator core and the heater core to be discharged through the air discharge duct.

A vehicle includes a heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) system for heating and cooling a passenger compartment. The HVAC system includes a refrigerant loop and a coolant loop, and an auxiliary heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) system. The auxiliary HVAC includes an expansion device coupled to the refrigerant loop for controlling a flow of refrigerant to a first heat exchanger, and a second heat exchanger coupled to an auxiliary coolant loop used to regulate a temperature of the component. The auxiliary HVAC further includes a blower for creating an air flow through the first heat exchanger, a first blend door for directing the air flow through the second heat exchanger and/or an outlet, a second blend door for directing the air flow through the outlet and/or a recirculation duct, and a third blend door for controlling the air flow through the recirculation duct.

A method is provided for regenerating an odor absorbent in a motor vehicle HVAC system. That method includes the step of heating and regenerating the odor absorbent using heat from a heater core of the HVAC system.

Auxiliary vehicle HVAC system for efficient multi-zone spot cooling

A blower assembly includes a housing having a scrolled wall, a motor having an output shaft extending within the housing, an impeller positioned within the housing and mounted to the output shaft for creating an airflow along an airflow path within the housing, an airflow outlet, and a scroll cut-off. The scroll cut-off is a membrane positioned between the scrolled wall and the air flow outlet, and forms a substantially continuous surface with the scrolled wall and with the airflow outlet, along the airflow path. In a first position, the membrane is substantially taut and in a second position, the membrane is relaxed. Alternatively, the membrane is inflatable via a valve in fluid communication with the membrane.

A blower assembly includes a housing having a scrolled wall, a motor having an output shaft extending within the housing, an impeller positioned within the housing and mounted to the output shaft for creating an airflow along an airflow path within the housing, an airflow outlet, and a scroll cut-off. The scroll cut-off may rotate about its central or center axis and forms a substantially continuous surface with the scrolled wall and with the airflow outlet, along the airflow path, in a first position and defines an air gap. The blower assembly also includes an actuator for rotating the scroll cut-off from the first position to a second position wherein the air gap is increased for reducing the airflow.

An HVAC comfort system operates in a cabin of a vehicle. A plurality of vehicle status parameters are measured including a cabin temperature and a seat occupancy configuration. The method detects whether the vehicle status parameters correspond to a predetermined override state. When the vehicle status parameters correspond to the predetermined override state, then a respective mandated setting is automatically activated. Unless prevented by the mandated setting, one of a plurality of HVAC modes is automatically selected in response to the cabin temperature and other inputs, wherein the HVAC modes include an extremity heating mode and a panel circulation mode. The extremity heating mode is comprised of automatic activation of a touchpoint heated surface and other outputs in response to the seat occupancy configuration. The panel circulation mode is comprised of automatic activation of one or more zones for convective cooling in response to the seat occupancy configuration and may include activating other cooling devices.
