The subject matter of this specification can be implemented in, among other things, a method that includes causing presentation of a collaborative video project to a first user account that includes a set of one or more shared video clips and a set of one or more personal video clips. The method includes receiving from the first user account a first selection of a video clip in the set of personal video clips and, in response, adding the video clip to the set of shared video clips. The method includes causing presentation of the collaborative video project to a second user account, including presentation of the set of shared video clips. The method includes receiving from the second user account a second selection of the video clip and, in response, adding the video clip to a collaborative video for the collaborative video project.

Systems and techniques for removing a sound recording from an audio recording (e.g., an audio recording embedded in a media file) are presented. The system can include an identification component, a first subtraction component and a second subtraction component. The identification component identifies a sound recording in a mixed audio recording. The first subtraction component determines a local linear transformation of the sound recording and subtracts the local linear transformation of the sound recording from the mixed audio recording to generate a new mixed audio recording. The second subtraction component compares one or more segments of the sound recording with one or more corresponding segments of the new mixed audio recording and reduces a power level of the new mixed audio recording based at least in part on correlation of the one or more corresponding segments with the one or more segments.

Systems and techniques for employing perceptual characteristic similarity for item replacement in media content are presented. The system can include an identification component, a matching component and a replacement component. The identification component identifies at least a portion of an item in a media file. The matching component determines a replacement item from a set of candidate items based on a comparison between perceptual characteristics associated with the item and corresponding perceptual characteristics associated with the set of candidate items. The replacement component replaces the item in the media file with at least a portion of the replacement item.

Synchronizing email messages between an external email server, a local email server and a wireless data processing device. For example, one embodiment of a system comprises a task queue comprised of a plurality of task entries, each entry associated with a particular user email account on the external email server and/or the local email server and representing a task to be performed in relation to the user email account; and a synchronizer to read synchronization tasks from the task queue and cause the synchronization tasks to be executed to synchronize email data stored on the external email server, the local email server and the wireless data processing device.
