Apparatus and method for clamping a flanged joint, comprising a clamp having first and second clamp devices applied to circumferentially separate portions of the flanges, each device having a foot to engage an outer face of a flange, and a force driver adapted to press the flanges together from opposite sides of the flanged connection. The clamping devices are circumferentially spaced apart on the flange, and a foot portion is adapted to engage the outer face of each flange circumferentially between the bolts, to allow transmission of forces to the flanges without applying forces to the bolts, or the nuts or other fixings attached thereto. The clamping force is applied not through the existing bolts passing through the flanges, but through the clamping device of the invention.

Separator

A method and apparatus for separating or spreading flanges of pipes is disclosed and includes two bolt hole engaging devices and a force transmission system. The force transmission system selectively couples with a bolt hole engaging device and is capable of exerting a force thereon for selective movement of the flanges relative to one another. The bolt hole engaging device comprises an expandable member that is arranged to be at least partially accommodated within the bolt hole before expansion, and an expander means arranged to expand the expandable member such that at least a portion of an outer surface of the expandable member is expanded to contact the bolt hole. The expander means may include at least one wedge shaped member and an actuator means for causing relative movement between the wedge shaped member and the expandable member.

Apparatus and method for separating flanges

A separating device that includes a wedge that extends between first and second plates, with at least one of the plates being supported by a support device such as a bar. The support device supports the or each plate while the device is in use so that the plate(s) are substantially prevented from bending or twisting due to the forces applied to the plate(s).

A separating device is provided that includes a wedge-shaped member. The wedge-shaped member has a plate member attached to each tapering side of it, and it may be moved linearly towards its apex. When moved in this way, the plate members move in a direction substantially perpendicular to the direction of movement of the wedge-shaped member. In use, the leading edge of the device is inserted between two objects (one of which may be the ground) and thus, when the plate members are moved apart by movement of the wedge-shaped member towards is apex, the objects are consequently moved apart (or one is lifted).
