A transfer system including a specially-equipped bed for transferring a patient from a reclining position on the bed to a seated position on a wheelchair or to a standing position on the floor.

Patient transfer arrangement

A bed has a mattress with a plurality of inflatable air sacs, a low-pressure compressed air blower, a pressure control system, and pipes for carrying gas from the blower to the sacs. A transport sheet extends over the air sacs and is attached to rollers at the ends of the bed. By winding the transport sheet on one roller and unwinding it from another roller, a patient can be moved across the bed and partly onto a wheelchair with its back rest removed. A lift mechanism on the bed raises the person to a seated position on the wheelchair, and the back rest is replaced behind the person.

Patient care and transfer arrangement

An arrangement of a wheelchair with a movable seat and leg rest and a bed equipped with transfer apparatus provided with rollers, a movable sheet and lift arms, for transporting an invalid comfortably across the bed to a sitting position in the wheelchair. The invalid can also be transferred to a standing position at the end of the bed.

Invalid transfer arrangement

A transfer system including a transfer module that operates in conjunction with a compatibly equipped bed and a standard wheelchair to transport a person from a supine position on the bed to a seated position on the wheelchair.

Person transfer arrangement

An arrangement for removing excess material from an object surface, to provide a desired finished surface. Holes are drilled into the object so that the bottoms of the holes lie on the desired finished surface. The holes have a shape so that the observed hole diameter at the prevailing surface of the object is dependent on the hole depth and thereby dependent on the amount of material remaining to be removed between the prevailing surface and the desired finished surface. The prevailing surface is continuously observed and measured, and the depths of material to be removed in a sequence of steps is calculated dependent on the measurements of the prevailing surface and the coordinates of the desired finished surface. As a result of the calculations, the depth of material removed during each step is controlled, so that upon carrying out a sequence of such steps, the surface exposed on the object after the last step has been carried out, coincides with the desired finished surface. The accuracy of the material removal equipment may be substantially less than the accuracy of the finished surface. Grooves instead of circular holes are cut when the radius of curvature of both the prevailing and desired surfaces becomes sufficiently small, so as to provide sufficient definition of the desired surface. With the grooves, the observed parameter is groove width rather than hole diameter.
