The invention provides filtration systems and associated methods for filtering a fuel cell reactant stream of particulate and vapor contaminants. In one embodiment, the invention provides a reactant filtration system for a fuel cell, including a first filter having a first inlet and a first outlet, and a second filter having a second inlet and a second outlet. The first filter includes a textile particulate filter, and the second filter includes an activated carbon material. The first and second filters are coupled such that the first inlet is adapted to receive a flow of reactant, which is flowed through the first filter to the first outlet and then to the second inlet, through the second filter and then through the second outlet, which is coupled to an electrode chamber of a fuel cell.

Fuel cell air system and method

A fuel cell system includes a fuel cell stack, an enclosure housing the fuel cell stack and a blower. The blower is located inside the enclosure and is adapted to draw air from inside the enclosure to produce an air flow through the fuel cell stack and establish a negative pressure inside the enclosure with respect to a region outside of the enclosure.

A liquid fuel purge system is disclosed for flushing liquid fuel from the combustion chambers of a gas turbine. The liquid purge system includes a three-way valve to pass liquid fuel and, alternatively, purge air to the combustion chambers. The gas turbine may operate on liquid fuel or gaseous fuel. When the turbine is switched to burn gaseous fuel, the liquid fuel remaining in the liquid fuel system is flushed by purge air provided by a liquid fuel purge system.

Liquid fuel and water injection purge systems and method for a gas turbine having a three-way purge valve

A purge system is disclosed for flushing liquid fuel and water from the combustion section of a gas turbine system as well as for providing continuous cooling of the nozzles. The gas turbine may operate on liquid fuel or gaseous fuel. When the turbine is switched to burn gaseous fuel, the liquid fuel remaining in the liquid fuel system is flushed by a liquid fuel purge system. Similarly, water in the water injection system is purged from nozzles in the combustion system by a water purge system. The purge system operates in conjunction with an air atomization system, but does not rely on an atomizing air compressor to boost the pressure of the purge air. Instead, the purge system utilizes pressurized air from the gas turbine compressor and directs the purge air to manifolds which distribute air to the atomizing air passages, liquid fuel nozzles, and water injection nozzles via purge valves and soft purge valves.
