A dynamoelectric machine includes a shaft, a rotor radially outward from the shaft with the rotor and shaft arranged to rotate in unison, a stator radially outward from the rotor with the stator being stationary relative to the rotor and shaft, and a heat transfer feature adjacent to and radially outward from the stator. The heat transfer feature includes a base encasing the stator, the base having a first end, a second end, and an axial middle; a first set of fins extending radially outward from the base adjacent the first end and the second end; and a second set of fins extending radially outward from the axial middle of the base with the second set of fins each having a smaller surface area and being closer to one another than the first set of fins.

Stator heat transfer feature for a dynamoelectric machine

A rotor body for a high-speed generator includes a rotor body with interior and exterior surfaces, a coolant inlet and outlet, and a rotor cooling path for actively cooling the rotor body. The coolant inlet and outlet extend between the interior and exterior surfaces. An interior segment of the rotor cooling path fluidly couples the coolant inlet and coolant outlet and is bounded by the rotor body interior surface. An exterior segment of the cooling path is bounded by the rotor body exterior surface and fluidly couples the coolant outlet an environment external to the rotor body.

A battery system including a passive cooling system for cooling a plurality battery cells during normal operation and during overheating of the battery cells. The passive cooling system may include a housing, a cooling fluid (coolant pool) within the housing, and a plurality of dividers between each of the plurality of battery cells.

A thermal management system for removing excess heat from a heat source includes a condenser and an evaporator fluidly connected together within a cooling loop. A phase change material is positioned within the condenser. The phase change material is configured to melt with a liquid coolant warmed by the evaporator. The phase change material is also configured solidify with the liquid coolant cooled by the condenser to temperatures below the melting point.

A cooling system for cooling an electronic component has a heat pipe defined by an inner wall and an outer wall with an intermediate fluid chamber. The heat pipe has a wall to be put in contact with a cold plate and extends away from the cold plate to define a cup shape with a fluid movement member positioned within the chamber to move the fluid from an end of the chamber adjacent to the cold plate to a spaced end of the cup shape.

The plurality of core slots are receptive of one or more windings. A coolant flowpath through the core component is formed through at least one core tooth. The at least one core tooth has one or more coolant tube banks and one or more mixing chambers arranged in an alternating pattern along the at least one core tooth.

A cooling system comprises an electronics module and a duct. The electronics module produces more heat at a first location than at a second location, and is rated to a safe operating temperature. The duct surrounds the electronics module, and has a shaped baffle with a constricted region near the first location and an open region near the second location. The expanded region has greater cross-sectional flow area than the constricted region. Airflow through the duct cools both the first location and the second location to within an efficiency margin below the safe operating temperature.

An inductor comprises a ferromagnetic core, a litz wire conductor encircling the ferromagnetic core, a housing, a bobbin, a conductive pin, and a seal assembly. The housing encloses the ferromagnetic core and the litz wire conductor. The conductive pin is conductively attached to the litz wire conductor, and extends therefrom to form an external electrical contact. The bobbin supports the litz wire conductor and positions the conductive pin in alignment with an aperture in the housing which is sealed against fluid egress by the seal assembly.

A free-surface liquid transfer apparatus for rotating machinery includes a rotating member. The rotating member includes a main shaft defining a hollow inner cavity, an outer cylindrical wall defining a hollow annular cavity in fluid communication with the hollow inner cavity through a plurality of orifices formed on the main shaft, and a slinger formation in fluid communication with the hollow annular cavity through a plurality of radial slots formed through the slinger formation. A central axis of the main shaft, a central axis of the hollow annular cavity, and a central axis of the slinger formation are collinear, and the slinger formation is configured to transmit working fluid received through the plurality of radial slots outward as a continuous film having both tangential and radial velocity components.

An evaporative compact high intensity cooler (ECHIC) for transferring heat from a heat source along a heat conduction surface of the heat source with a two-phase coolant, comprises a flow passage labyrinth of flow passages with short conduction paths interrupted by coolant columns that all radiate from at least one coolant supply passage and offer the coolant expanding volume as the coolant evaporates due to absorbing heat within the flow passages from the heat conduction surface to maintain nearly isobaric conditions for the coolant to maintain relatively constant temperature throughout the ECHIC as it absorbs heat from the heat source and limit boundary layer formation within the flow passages to improve heat transfer.
