Disclosed is a method for the non-destructive testing of workpiece surfaces of a workpiece by means of fluorescent penetrant testing or dye penetrant testing. The method comprises applying a penetrant to the region of the workpiece surface to be examined, thereby allowing the penetrant to penetrate into possible recesses in the workpiece surface, applying a developer to the region of the workpiece surface to be tested; bleaching the penetrant by a gaseous or liquid oxidant; and visually assessing the penetrant that has remained in the recesses present in the workpiece surface.

Method for the non-destructive testing of workpiece surfaces

A method of decoking (decarbonizing) surfaces of a cracking plant in which the cracking furnace is connected to a heat exchanger for cooling the cracked gas mixture, in which steam and air are admitted as a gas mixture to the cracking furnace and then the gas mixture is conducted through the cooler. The cooling medium is thus passed through the cracking gas cooler during the decoking operation while in a first stage the mixture is fed through the device at such a mass flow rate that the temperature of the deposits on the heat exchange surface is approximately at the temperature corresponding to cracking operations while, in a second stage, the gas flow rate is increased to raise the temperature of the deposits on the heat exchange surfaces of the cooler.

In a low temperature rectification process for the separation of ethylene from a mixture of ethylene and ethane comprising separating the ethylene-containing mixture into a liquid reboiler fraction enriched in ethane and a gaseous head fraction enriched in ethylene; heating and compressing the head fraction; partially liquefying resultant compressed gaseous head fraction in indirect heat exchange with the reboiler fraction; expanding and recycling resultant condensed head fraction in part as reflux to the rectification; and withdrawing in part resultant condensed fraction as product ethylene, the improvement which comprises heating the liquid reboiler fraction, in part, in indirect heat exchange with a closed refrigerantion cycle, e.g., an ethylene cycle.

To reduce the pressure drop of intercoolers and final coolers in a single or multi-stage gas compression, the compressed gas is cooled in direct heat exchange with a liquid cooling medium in a spray tower, for example, instead of by indirect contact in tube-type exchangers. The process is especially amenable to the multi-stage compression of cracking gas wherein a gasoline faction is condensed out in each cooling stage and is used to supplement water as the cooling medium.
