Methods for detecting the flight path of projectiles involve a sequence of N target detections that include detecting the measured velocities and azimuthal angle bearings of the projectile along the flight path of the projectile by Doppler radar at the times tn, wherein n=1 . . . N, and determining the flight path and the direction of motion of the projectile are from these measurements. The measurements are adapted in a first nonlinear parameter fit to an analytical relationship of the time curve of the radial velocity of the projectile while the projectile passes through the detection range of the radar and so that the absolute projectile velocity, minimum distance of the project flight path from the radar, time at which the projectile passes the point having the minimum distance, flight path direction in azimuth, and flight path direction in elevation can be estimated.

Methods for detecting the flight path of projectiles

A method for direction finding by means of monopulse formation in a radar system with electronically controlled group antenna and analog beam shaping of sum and difference channels, a self-test of the antenna being carried out to identify failed receiving elements, and the result of the self-test going directly into the monopulse formation and the test thereby being error corrected. The result of the self-test is converted into correction values that, independently of the antenna viewing direction, are combined with those from the sum channel signal and the difference channel signals of the antenna.

Method for direction finding by means of monopulse formation

A method and corresponding devices for monitoring the performance of a radar system () which is equipped with a shield(radome) to protect it against weather influences are described. For this purpose, a part of the radiated radar signal is modified and fed as a monitor signal to the reception system after interacting with a coating () which is possibly present on the radom (). Influences of a damping or reflecting coating () on the radom () change the monitor signal. By analyzing these changes it is possible to draw conclusions about the coating of the damping or reflection of the radar signals which is caused by the coating ().

A device for detecting parking spaces for vehicles includes a distance-measuring beam-type sensor system disposed on a road vehicle, and a signal processing system. The distance-measuring beam-type sensor system directs a measuring beam into an area in front of the vehicle so as to detect free areas in the traffic space that are potential parking spaces. The signal processing unit examines, upon a detecting of a free area, the dimensions of the free area and the suitability of the free area for parking.

For a radar device arranged above a reflecting surface, a method is suggested for estimating the height of an object above the surface. This method does not require a refined angle resolution for the radar antenna and is based solely on the processing of signals. The invention makes use of the appearance of an interference pattern for the radiation field of the radar antenna, which normally is viewed as a disadvantage, by evaluating the intensity modulation of a signal received from an object moving in radial direction to the radar device within the surveillance range. Together with the measured distance to the object, this is used to estimate a value for the height of the object above the road surface.

A signal-processing method for a motor-vehicle radar arrangement is specified, which method provides more extensive information on the traffic situation in observation direction by evaluating echo signals deflected at the road surface.
