An operations support system is provided for an engine with a turbine having a turbine inlet. The system includes a diagnostic engine model unit configured to receive engine data from the engine and to generate diagnostics data based on the engine data, the diagnostics data including scalars. The system further includes an engine-specific model unit coupled to the diagnostic engine model unit and configured to receive the scalars from the diagnostic engine model unit and configured to generate turbine inlet temperature information for the engine using a thermodynamic model. The thermodynamic model is based on component maps associated with the engine. The system further includes a storage unit coupled to the engine-specific model unit and configured to store the turbine inlet temperature information.

A component for a gas turbine engine having an engine axis includes a rotor disk and a plurality of airfoils. The rotor disk comprises a web and a rim. The web has a first outer surface at least partially defining a plurality of holes and a plurality of slots. Each of the plurality of slots extends from a corresponding one of the plurality of holes and forms a first angle with the engine axis at the point of intersection with the corresponding one of the plurality of holes. The rim has a second outer surface also at least partially defining the plurality of slots. Each of the plurality of slots forms a second angle with the engine axis at the second outer surface, the second angle being different from the first angle. Each of the plurality of airfoils extends from the second outer surface.

A secondary flow, turbine cooling air system for the uniform cooling of high pressure turbine module components such as the turbine shroud, turbine blade tips, turbine nozzle, transion liner, and turbine bearing support housing in a recuperated gas turbine engine is provided. The secondary flow turbine cooling system provides uniform cooling air having a similar pressure and temperature in a recuperated gas turbine engine as the compressor discharge air of a non-recuperated gas turbine engine. A method for uniform cooling of high pressure turbine module components using the secondary flow turbine cooling air system is also provided.

A lower stress and higher service life curvic coupling design is disclosed for use on coupling mechanisms for assembly of components that comprise rotating elements, such as impellers, turbine wheels and couplings for gas turbine engines and other types of engines having highly stressed components. The curvic coupling design includes a compound fillet radius, comprised of a large and a small radius, located between the root and the pressure surface of all splined teeth on the torque transmitting coupling halves. The larger radius, with its lower stress concentration, is positioned in the root area where the background hoop stresses act, thereby resulting in a lower fillet peak stress value. The smaller radius smoothly connects the larger radius with the pressure surface, minimizing the penetration of the fillet surface towards the mating tooth, thereby allowing proper clearances to be maintained. The smaller radius is in a region where the background stresses are low, and therefore its higher stress concentration is not detrimental to the overall design. The inventive curvic coupling design ultimately resulted in a three-fold increase in service life.
