An electronic device includes an antenna configured to receive a wireless transmission. The wireless transmission includes noise and data to be received. The electronic device includes a signal splitter that splits the wireless transmission into a first signal and a second signal. The electronic device includes a filter configured to filter the data to be received in the first signal. Furthermore, the electronic device includes merging circuitry configured to subtract the first signal from the second signal to reduce the noise in the second signal.

Noise cancellation

An electronic device may include an adjustable power supply, at least one antenna, and associated antenna tuning circuitry. The antenna tuning circuitry may be an integral part of the antenna and may include a control circuit and at least one tunable element. The tunable element may include radio-frequency switches, continuously/semi-continuously adjustable components such as tunable resistors, inductors, and capacitors, and other load circuits that provide desired impedance characteristics. The power supply may provide power supply voltage signals to the antenna tuning circuitry via inductive coupling. The power supply voltage signals may be modulated according to a predetermined lookup table during device startup so that the control circuit is configured to generate desired control signals. These control signals adjust the tunable element so that the antenna can support wireless operation in desired frequency bands.

Methods and apparatus for controlling tunable antenna systems

A device under test (DUT) may be tested using a radio-frequency test station. The DUT may include at least one antenna, wireless communications circuitry associated with the antenna, and other peripheral components such as a camera module, a display module, and audio circuitry. The test station may include a shielded enclosure in which the DUT is placed during testing. The DUT need not be electrically wired to any test equipment. The DUT may be configured to operate in self test mode. The DUT may be configured to obtain baseline noise floor measurements while all the peripheral components are deactivated and may be configured to obtain elevated noise floor measurements while selectively activating desired subsets of the peripheral components. The difference between the elevated and baseline noise floor measurements may be computed to determine whether at least some of the peripheral components negatively impact the antenna performance by an excessive amount.

Methods for testing wireless electronic devices using automatic self-test mode

Circuitry for portable electronic devices is provided. The circuitry may include wireless communications circuitry and storage and processing circuitry. The wireless communications circuitry may include an antenna and a radio-frequency power amplifier with an adjustable gain mode. The radio-frequency power amplifier may amplify radio-frequency signals to a given output power. The circuitry may include an adjustable power supply circuit that supplies an adjustable power supply voltage to the power amplifier circuitry. The circuitry may also include a transceiver that produce radio-frequency signals at a specified input power to the power amplifier circuitry. The storage and processing circuitry may be used in storing calibration data. The calibration data may specify adjustments to be made to the input power to the radio-frequency power amplifier, the gain mode setting of the power amplifier, and the power supply voltage for the power amplifier to optimize performance while minimizing power consumption.

Electronic devices with calibrated radio frequency communications circuitry

Portable electronic devices are provided with wireless circuitry. The wireless circuitry may include one or more sets of radio-frequency power amplifiers. The radio-frequency power amplifiers are used to amplify radio-frequency signals that are transmitted by the portable electronic devices. Each power amplifier may have multiple gain mode settings. Gain stages within the power amplifiers may be selectively enabled in accordance with the gain mode settings. When a higher level of gain is required, all of the gain stages may be enabled. When a lower level of gain is required, some of the gain stages may be disabled to conserve power. An adjustable power supply may be used to provide an adjustable power supply voltage to the power amplifiers. The adjustable power supply voltage can be reduced when it is desired to minimize power consumption at a particular gain mode setting. Gain mode and power supply settings may be adjusted simultaneously.

Radio frequency communications circuitry with power supply voltage and gain control

Portable electronic devices are provided that contain radio-frequency transceiver circuitry. Power amplifier circuitry may amplify transmitted radio-frequency signals from the radio-frequency transceiver circuitry. The power amplifier circuitry may be powered with a power supply voltage. The power supply voltage may be reduced to conserve power provided that requirements such as adjacent channel leakage ratio requirements are satisfied. Calibration measurements may be made to determine the extent to which power can be conserved by power supply voltage reductions. During calibration, the transceiver circuitry may transmit signals in a transmit subband. Test equipment that is external to the device may frequency shift the transmitted signals into a receive subband. The frequency-shifted signals may be fed back into the device. The transceiver circuitry in the device may make power measurements on the fed back signals. The power measurements may be used to compute adjacent channel leakage ratio values.

Wireless transmitter calibration using device receiver

During a telephony session, a determination is made on a mobile computing device that one or more designated conditions exist by which radio interference generated from the mobile computing device is to be reduced. In response, a power state of a set of one or more components of the mobile computing device is lowered. This reduces radio interference from those components. The set of components are ancillary to the mobile computing device's ability to maintain the telephony session, so that the telephony session is not affected by the reduction of power to the components.
