Zinc oxide is used in poly(arylene sulfide compositions to improve encapsulation properties and to inhibit color shift. The invention includes electronic components encapsulated with poly(arylene sulfide) compositions containing zinc oxide.

Zinc oxide in poly(arylene sulfide) compositions

Electronic components are encapsulated with a poly(arylene sulfide) composition containing hydrogenated conjugated diene/monovinyl-substituted aromatic copolymer. The invention also includes certain encapsulation compositions containing poly(arylene sulfide), hydrogenated conjugated diene/monovinyl-substituted aromatic copolymer, reinforcement and filler.

Encapsulated electronic components and encapsulation compositions

Reinforcements such as, for example, carbon fibers, are coated with a poly(arylene sulfide). The poly(arylene sulfide) is cured in place on the reinforcement. The reinforcement can be used in compositions such as, for example, poly(arylene sulfide) compositions.

Polymer-coated reinforcements

A polymer blend comprising a polyamide and a small effective amount of a poly(arylene sulfide) resin. The addition of the poly(arylene sulfide) resin improves the properties of the polyamide and, especially, the molding characteristics of polyamides.

The tendency of poly(arylene sulfide) resin to cause mold corrosion upon molding is inhibited by admixing with said poly(arylene sulfide) resin prior to the molding thereof a suitable amount of at least one metal salt of metaboric acid, tetraboric acid, hypophosphorous acid, hypophosphoric acid, metaphosphoric acid, orthophosphoric acid, pyrophosphoric acid or an aliphatic polycarboxylic acid containing 4 to 10 carbon atoms wherein the metal is selected from Groups IA or IIA of the Periodic Table of the Elements.

The tendency of poly(arylene sulfide) resin to cause mold corrosion upon molding is inhibited by admixing with said poly(arylene sulfide) resin prior to the molding thereof a corrision inhibiting amount of at least one metal oxalate wherein the metal is selected from Groups IA, IIA, and IIB of the Periodic Table of the Elements.

A process for preparing polyamides of 2,2-bis(4-aminocyclohexyl)-propane (PACP) or methyl derivatives thereof with a C.sub.8 to C.sub.12 straight chain alkane dicarboxylic acid, or mixture thereof with adipic acid, which comprises preparing a moderate molecular weight prepolymer of the diamine and diacid or diacid mixture employing a manganous hypophosphite/water catalyst system, and thereafter condensing the prepolymer to a high molecular weight product.
