The present disclosure discloses compositions and methods for multipurpose disinfection and sterilization solutions broadly effective against multiple microbial pathogens. The present disclosure demonstrates broad spectrum antimicrobial activity against environmental and pathogenic amoeba, bacterial spores, vegetative bacteria, fungi, rickettsia, viruses, parasites and toxic microbial products. The multipurpose disinfection solutions of the present disclosure may be used alone or in combination for a variety of purposes, including disinfection of medical devices such as contact lenses, contact lens cases, surgical instruments, and dental instruments.

Compositions and methods for multipurpose disinfection and sterilization solutions

In one embodiment, a method includes receiving wastewater having a first total organic carbon (TOC) at a wastewater treatment system comprising a reactor system, wherein the reactor system comprises an anaerobic moving bed biofilm reactor (MBBR) and an aerobic MBBR. The method further includes treating the wastewater in the anaerobic MBBR, wherein the anaerobic MBBR comprises first bio-carriers configured to degrade at least a portion of the first TOC in the wastewater to generate a first treated wastewater and biogas, wherein the first treated wastewater has a second TOC that is less than the first TOC. The method also includes providing the biogas to an external system.

Moving bed biofilm reactor for waste water treatment system

In order to render sewage sludge suitable for beneficial purposes, it must be disinfected and stabilized. EDC deactivation is rapidly becoming a desirable result of any sludge or biosolids treatment process. Disclosed herein is a process of treating sewage sludge so as to stabilize the sludge that involves the presence of an iron-containing compound during dewatering of the sludge. Process embodiments described also achieve biosolid samples that have reduced EDC activity, Other embodiments disclosed involve use of a combination of iron salts ferrate and ferric chloride that are added to wastewater sludge in the dewatering step before heat drying. The biosolids resulting from sludge treated with aniron-containing compound are able to resist putrefaction for more than two to three weeks.

Utilization of iron salts to stabilize and/or disinfect biosolids

A method of treating contaminated air, gas and surfaces is accomplished through the nebulization of gas and/or liquid oxidants through a field of electromagnetic radiation or sonic waves. The contaminated gas and/or liquid streams are blended with gaseous and/or liquid oxidants by the nebulizer and directly injected in the energy field. Free radicals produced from oxidants in the presence of the energy field instantaneously oxidize a large effective surface area of the contaminated media. Surfaces are treated more efficiently with the energy field situated directly above and parallel to but not on the surface; a high-frequency energy field may be used to create a large concentration of free radicals without damaging the surface in a collimated beam of the field situated parallel to the surface. A catalyst may be employed at the tip (i.e. discharge orifices of gas and/or liquid) of the nebulizer or blended into the nebulized cloud to increase the formation of free radicals. The method may also be used to carry out a reduction instead of an oxidation reaction.

Nebulizing treatment method

A method utilizing chlorine dioxide and nitrous acid or other non-charged chemical species for the treatment of biosolids to destroy pathogens is provided. The method uses chlorine dioxide to modulate the ORP of the matrix, acidification of the sludge (biosolids) to a pH of less than 4.0, and provides for the addition of nitrous acid for enhanced disinfection in a closed system to prevent volitalization.

Sludge treatment process

This invention relates to apparatus and methods for the treatment of fluids with magnetic fields and, in particular, to the disinfection of contaminated fluids by treating the fluids with a high-gauss magnet followed by ultraviolet radiation. Fluids can accumulate organic and non-organic contaminants from multiple and diverse sources. Magnetic treatment enhances the ability to separate hydrophobic contaminants from the fluid and the ability of that fluid to be disinfected. A wide variety of fluids can be treated with these methods including water to be made potable, industrial water and other fluids such as coolants and lubricants, oils, petrochemicals such as fuels, and beverages. Further, fluid can be exposed to UV radiation at a flow rate sufficient to prevent occlusion of UV-transmissible surfaces in the disinfection system by contaminants in the fluid or by removing a set amount of those contaminants. Using these methods, microorganism levels can be substantially decreased with a reduced need for biocides or other anti-bacterial or anti-fungal agents. These methods are highly effective at removing contaminants and extending the useful life of fluids such as coolants and reducing or eliminating the risks posed to workers by heavily contaminated or biocide-treated coolants.

Methods and apparatus for the application of combined fields to

A method of treating a liquid waste or process stream that includes a sludge component and that enhances sludge treatment or stabilization. The sludge is acidified to a pH of less than 4.0 in an oxygen enriched environment. A nitrous acid level is maintained sufficiently high to kill pathogens, in a closed chamber so that the nitrous acid won't be lost from the chamber through volatilization.

A method of detoxifying hazardous wastes containing mercury, zinc, selenium, arsenic, antimony, or thallium by mixing the waste with silicate and a setting agent which together form an alkaline silicate matrix. An additive other than the silicate and setting agent is mixed with the waste, prior to the matrix setting, to form a complex with the mercury, zinc, selenium, arsenate, antimony, thallium, or copper that is substantially insoluble in the environment of the alkaline silicate matrix. The alkaline silicate matrix thereby binds wastes which could otherwise leach out to contaminate the environment.

A method of treating sewage is disclosed. Sewage is mixed with an ammonia source, and the mixture is formed into a substantially impermeable mass. The substantially impermeable nature of the mixture increases the ammonia concentration therein and substantially completely destroys all viable parasites. When the impermeable mass is formed by addition of cement and silicate, a strongly alkaline environment is created that kills bacteria and viruses. The resulting end product is a friable mass that is substantially free of pathogens and suitable for unrestricted reuse.
