Enclosures for vertical pulverizer systems are disclosed. The enclosure may include a vertically oriented cylindrical body forming an internal cavity. The enclosure may also include a cover positioned above the cylindrical body. The cover may have a curved surface. Additionally, the enclosure may include an inlet channel formed through the cover, where the inlet channel may be in fluid communication with the internal cavity of the cylindrical body, and an outlet channel formed through the cover, adjacent the inlet channel. Furthermore, the enclosure may include a base component positioned within the internal cavity of the cylindrical body, opposite the cover, the base component having a curved surface, a journal opening formed through the cylindrical body between the cover and the base component, and a journal opening cover coupled to the cylindrical body. The journal opening cover may cover the journal opening.

Enclosures for vertical pulverizer systems

A pulverizer upper gearbox bearing assembly for a mill includes a bowl hub having a stepped hub defining a first bore to receive a shaft therethrough and a bowl extending radially outwardly therefrom defining a cavity between the stepped hub and bowl, the stepped hub having a first outside diameter extending to a second outside diameter, which in turn extends to a third outside diameter along a longitudinal axis of the first bore, the first outside diameter larger than the second outside diameter, which is larger than the third outside diameter; a thrust bearing disposed around the first outside diameter, the thrust bearing having an upper washer and a lower washer, the upper washer having an interference fit with the first outside diameter of the bowl hub; a roller bearing disposed around the third outside diameter, the roller bearing having a separable inner ring from an outer ring and a surrounding cage and roller assembly; a mill base hub extending into the cavity between the bowl and stepped hub, the mill base hub defining a first inside diameter extending to a second inside diameter, which in turn extends to a third inside diameter along a longitudinal axis of the first bore, the first inside diameter larger than the third inside diameter, which is larger than the second inside diameter; and a fluorocarbon rubber oil seal disposed in an annulus of an edge defining the first inside diameter of the mill base hub. The upper washer of the thrust washer is disposed between the first outside diameter of the base hub and the oil seal and first inside diameter of the mill base hub. The second outside diameter of the bowl hub is inside and aligned with the second inside diameter of the mill base hub. The third outside diameter of the bowl hub has an interference fit with the inner ring of the roller bearing, and the third inside diameter of the mill base hub allows the outer ring, cage and roller assembly of the roller bearing to fit therein allowing removal of the bowl hub, inner ring, upper washer and shaft from the mill base hub.

The energy-efficient grinding roll includes a body portion formed of a first type of material, an external surface formed of a second type of material, and tread-like means of preestablished dimensions and preestablished spacing provide on the external surface such that the energy-efficient grinding roll is capable of achieving as much as a 15% reduction in the energy required to pulverize solid material when compared with the use of standard grinding rolls.

A pulverizer shaft rotation support assembly includes a rolling element sub-assembly for rotationally supporting the shaft of a pulverizer of a bowl mill of the type which is operative for pulverizing material such as coal into smaller particles, and includes a separator body having a bore, a rotating shaft supported within the bore, and a grinding table supported on the shaft. The rolling element sub-assembly includes an inner race secured to the shaft at a first shaft location, an outer race and a plurality of cylindrical bearings for rolling movement along and intermediate the inner and outer races. The pulverizer shaft rotational support assembly also includes an annular cutout in a gearbox housing structure for radially limiting the outer race while permitting axial movement thereof. The annular cutout limits the maximum radial displacement of the outer race to thereby maintain an annular clearance between the shaft and the bore while permitting axial following movement of the outer race in correspondence with axial movement of the inner race, whereby the shaft can freely rotate out of contact with the bore throughout the range of axial movement of the shaft during axial loading thereof.

Rotating shaft support assembly for a bowl mill

A scraper assembly for use with an associated coal pulverizer or as part of a coal pulverizer having a vertical axis with a central hub that rotates during normal operation of the pulverizer. The scraper assembly includes a bracket dimensioned and configured for attachment to the hub of the coal pulverizer that rotates in the normal operation of the coal pulverizer. The apparatus also includes a shaft extending from the bracket. The shaft is substantially horizontal and the apparatus also includes a scraping element pivotally mounted on the shaft. A torsion spring biases the scraping element with respect to the shaft. In some forms of the invention the scraping element comprises a first and second journals engaging the shaft at axially spaced points and the scraping element further includes first and second arms extending radially away from the shaft that are respectively fixed to the first and second journals. The apparatus may further include a first plate shaped member carried on the first and second arms and a second plate shaped member removably attached to the first plate shaped member.

It is through the operation of the subject mechanical spring journal assembly (20) tht there is established the magnitude of the forces which the grinding rolls (18) of the bowl mill (10) apply to the coal for purposes of accomplishing the pulverization of the coal. The subject mechanical spring journal assembly (20) includes spring housing means (44) comprising a self-contained subassembly unit for the operating components of the mechanical spring journal assembly (20), stud bearing means (38) attached to one end of the spring housing means (44), preload stud means (40) having one end thereof supported by the stud bearing means (38), pressure spring means (42) positioned in surrounding relation to the preload stud means (40) and adjustment means (46) operative for mounting the mechanical spring journal assembly (20) in the bowl mill ( 10).

A coiled spring system (20) particularly suited for use in a bowl mill (10) of the type that is employed for purposes of effectuating therewithin the pulverization of material such as coal. It is through the operation of the subject coiled spring system (20) that there is established the magnitude of the forces which the grinding rolls (18) of the bowl mill (10) apply to the coal for purposes of accomplishing the pulverization of the coal. The subject coiled spring system (20) includes stud bearing housing means (36), preload stud means (38) suitably supported from the stud bearing housing means (36), pressure spring means (40) positioned in surrounding relation to the preload means (38), and spring housing means (42) encircling the pressure spring means (40).
