A printing device includes a thermal printhead with a plurality of print elements. A controller is configured to identify an out of specification status of at least one print element, wherein the controller is further configured to determine whether printing of a specific print field requires use of the print element having the out of specification status and, if so, to determine whether a print location of the specific print field can be shifted such that the print element having out of specification status will be one of (i) aligned with a gap in the specific print field or (ii) offset to one side of the specific print field. A weighing scale incorporating the printing device is also provided.

A wrapping machine for wrapping trayed food products includes a wrap station at which trayed food products are wrapped, a film dispensing station for drawing out film over trayed food products at the wrap station and a conveying system for moving trayed food products along a defined path from an input station to the wrap station. A controller is operatively connected to operate the conveying system, components of the film dispensing station and components of the wrap station. The controller is configured as a state machine with sequential wrap stages, where each wrap stage must successfully complete before the controller initiates a next wrap stage.

A method for disposing of infectious medical waste in a closed system includes the steps of shredding the waste in the closed system to reduce the waste to small particles and indirectly heating the waste particles in the closed system by contacting the waste particles with a heated surface. The waste particles are indirectly heated to a sufficiently high temperature and for a sufficient period of time to produce a quantitative assurance of sterilization of the waste particles. Air is continuously drawn through the closed system to control the pressure and moisture in the closed system.
