In a partitioned process environment, storage is reassigned by a shuffle of guest absolute address spaces which may be reassigned among partitions without restriction as to the position of the space to be reassigned relative to the position of the partition to which it is to be assigned. The reassignment is accomplished by adjusting the origin addresses by an adjustment value corresponding to the size of the address space of an additional memory area to be added to a selected partition. Furthermore, the size of the address space of the selected partition is increased by the same adjustment value. The system employs duplicated origin and limit arrays which are used to convert from a partition (guest) absolute address to a system (host) absolute address and uses duplicated configuration arrays by which the system absolute addresses are converted to physical memory addresses. Revised origin and limit information and configuration information is stored in an origin and limit array in the stand by state and in a configuration array in the stand by state. Autonomously operating circuitry is responsive to control signals to temporarily suspend memory commands from the input-output system, to reconfigure the origin and limit arrays and the configuration arrays to enable the system to use the revised information and, thereafter, to resume the processing of memory commands from the input-output system.

A system for resetting a cache in a first device connected by a multilinelink to a memory in a second device. A transceiver in the first element connects to one end of each of the link lines and a transceiver in the second device connects to the other end. The transmitter in the first device transceiver is disabled in response to a failure of the transceiver to receive messages from the second device. The transmitter in the first device transceiver also selectively sends a reset sequence to the receiver in the second device. A detector detects when all of the receivers in the second device have either received a reset sequence or have detected that a transmitter in the first device is disabled. The detector sets a latch in response, representing that data in the second device cache is invalid. Optionally, the second device has responders which send responses over the link lines indicating receipt of a reset sequence. The transmitters in the first device switch to a disabled state when the responses are not received within a specified period.

An edge detector has a digital phase locking loop in which one of the signals (e.g., the data signal) is coupled to a delay chain that develops a series of incrementally phase delayed versions of the input. Adjacent phase delayed pairs are selected, one pair at a time, and are compared to the other signal (e.g., the clock signal) to determine if an edge of the clock falls between the edges of the data signal in the selected phase pair, or falls outside the edges of the selected phase pair, on one side or the other thereof. If the clock edge falls outside the selected pair, a control signal selects another pair for comparison and the process is repeated until, for example, the data edges are aligned with the positive going edge of the clock. With a clock frequency equal to twice data frequency, the data can then be sampled on the falling edge of the clock.

Two elements of a data processing system are connected by a physical link comprising multiple conductors attached to transceivers at channels in each data processing element. Once the transceivers have been synchronized, commands and responses are exchanged which ensure that all of the transceivers in a channel are connected to the same channel on the other end of the conductor. If the transceivers are considered configured an entry is made in a Configured-Transceiver table. A search is made of an Allowed-Operational-Link table which contains sets of transceivers which are allowed to become operational links. The set of transceivers thus found, is compared against the Configured-Transceiver-Table to verify that all of the members of the set have been configured. If a match is found, this set of transceivers becomes an Intended-Operational-Link. The Intended-Operational-Link is verified to ensure that both channels agree on the set of conductors which form the operational link. If the Intended-Operational-Link verifies, the operational link is established therefrom.
