A method and apparatus for setting a packer assembly having an upper packer and a lower packer in a wellbore in a single trip into a wellbore is provided. The packer assembly is configured to be retrieved from the wellbore using a retrieval tool in a single trip into the wellbore. The retrieval tool is configured to be released from the packer assembly while in the wellbore during a retrieval process in the event that the packer assembly will not release from the wellbore or is otherwise prevented from removal from the wellbore.

Method and apparatus for a packer assembly

A connector for coiled tubing has been invented which has a hollow body member having a top, a bottom, and a fluid flow channel therethrough from top to bottom, coiled tubing gripping apparatus connected to the hollow body, and a movable member movably connected to the bottom of the hollow body, the movable member having a top, a bottom, a top portion within the hollow body and a bottom portion projecting down beyond the bottom of the movable body, the movable member movable with respect to the hollow body and having a fluid flow bore therethrough from top to bottom. In one aspect the movable member is movable longitudinally with respect to the hollow body and/or laterally with respect to a longitudinal axis of the hollow body. In certain aspects the connector has selectively locking apparatus for selectively drivingly locking the hollow body to the movable member.

Coiled tubing connector

A wellbore system with a tubular string extending from an earth surface down into a wellbore in the earth, a packer system with a selectively settable packer element, and a disconnect located between an end of the tubular string and the packer system, the disconnect operable from the surface by imposing a downward force on the tubular string. In one aspect the packer system's packer element is a tension-set packer element. A wellbore disconnect with a top sub, a piston having an upper end secured to the top sub and a portion below the upper end releasably secured with at least one releasable member to a carrier member, the carrier member having apparatus for selectively gripping the piston, the apparatus for selectively gripping the piston also selectively gripping a bottom sub within which the piston is movable, the at least one releasable member releasable in response to a downward force on the disconnect.

Packer system

A wash nozzle for wellbore washing operations has been invented, the wash nozzle, in one aspect having a central mandrel with a top, a bottom, and a fluid flow bore therethrough from top to bottom, at least one mandrel port through the central mandrel for fluid flow from within the central mandrel's fluid flow bore to an exterior of the central mandrel, a hollow sleeve rotatably mounted around the central mandrel, and at least one sleeve port through the sleeve for fluid flow from within the sleeve from the exterior of the central mandrel to an exterior of the sleeve, the at least one sleeve port defined by a wall on the sleeve. In one aspect the wash nozzle includes apparatus for selective rotation of the sleeve about the mandrel. In one aspect flow through the wash nozzle is stopped to effect sleeve rotation and, in one particular aspect, flow through the nozzle is then re-established. Methods have been invented using such wash nozzles for wellbore washing operations and/or cuttings removal.

Wellbore wash nozzle system

An apparatus for retrieving an object from a wellbore has been invented having an inner body and a longitudinal fluid flow bore therethrough, and at least one lateral flow bore therethrough, the bottom end having an opening suitable for receiving therein a fluid actuable member disposed for reciprocation with respect to the inner body, bias apparatus contacting the fluid actuable member for moving the fluid actuable member with respect to the inner body, and the fluid actuable member disposed so that the bias apparatus can push the fluid actuable member down to contact a plurality of fingers and move them into the longitudinal flow bore to engage the object in the wellbore when insufficient fluid pressure is present to overcome force of the bias apparatus in the fluid actuable member.

Wellbore fishing tools

A cutting tool has been invented for use in a wellbore to cut formation through which the wellbore extends or to cut items in the wellbore, the tool having, in one aspect, a body disposable at a desired location in the wellbore, at least one first blade pivotably mounted to the body at a first height on the body, at least one second blade pivotably mounted to the body at a second height on the body, the second height above the first height, the blades movable from a first position against the body to a second position extending out from the body for cutting, and the first blades shorter in length than the second blades.

Wellbore cutting tool

A new wellbore cutter has been invented which, in certain embodiments has a piston having a fluid flow bore therethrough, at least one stabilizer kick-out member, and at least one cutting blade kick-out member, an outer body through which the piston projects, the outer body movable about the piston, the outer body having at least one stabilizer pivotably mounted thereto, the at least one stabilizer movable out from the outer body upon movement of the outer body with respect to the piston so that the at least one stabilizer contacts the at least one stabilizer kick-out member, said contact effecting extension of the at least one stabilizer out from the outer body, and the outer body having at least one cutting blade pivotably mounted thereto, the at least one cutting blade movable out from the outer body upon movement of the outer body with respect to the piston so that the at least one cutting blade contacts the at least one cutting blade kick-out member, said contact effecting extension of the at least one cutting blade out from the outer body. In one aspect the at least one stabilizer is extended prior to cutting by the at least one cutting blade. The stabilizer(s) and cutting element(s) or blade(s) can be retracted by pulling on the piston or by reducing fluid pressure.

Wellbore cutter

A fishing spear for retrieving a fish from a wellbore comprises a mandrel fixedly secured to an upper sub, a collet assembly telescopically surrounding the mandrel and a support sleeve telescopically surrounding the mandrel and positioned between the mandrel and the collet assembly. An expandable fluid cavity is formed between a portion of the facing surfaces of the support sleeve and the mandrel. A coil spring, which is disposed between the support sleeve and the upper sub, downwardly biases the support sleeve so that it rests against a projecting head at the bottom of the mandrel when fluid pressure is not applied to the expandable cavity. The collet assembly includes a plurality of collet fingers, each having a collet head at the end thereof. The collet fingers are naturally inwardly radially biased in the direction of the mandrel. When the support sleeve rests on the projecting head, the collet heads are radially outwardly displaced or wedged. Before inserting the projecting head into the fish, or when removing the projecting head from fish, the support sleeve is raised by introducing fluid pressure into the expandable cavity, which causes the collet heads to assume their retracted position. When inserting the spear into the fish in this manner, collet fingers, which have low buckling resistance, do not collide with nor are axially displaced by fish.

Fishing tool and method of operation

An external pulling tool for retrieving a fish from a wellbore comprises a mandrel fixedly secured to an upper sub, an outer cover fixedly secured to and depending from the upper sub, a collet assembly telescopically surrounding the bottom portion of the mandrel and a support sleeve telescopically surrounding the collet assembly and positioned between the collet assembly and the outer cover. An expandable fluid cavity is formed between a portion of the facing surfaces of the support sleeve and the mandrel. A coil spring, which is disposed between the support sleeve and the upper sub, downwardly biases the support sleeve so that it rests against a lower shoulder on the outer cover when fluid pressure is not applied to the expandable cavil. The collet assembly includes a plurality of collet fingers, each having a collet head at the end thereof. The collet fingers are naturally outwardly radially biased in the direction of the outer cover. When the support sleeve rests on the lower shoulder, the collet heads are radially inwardly displaced or wedged. Before lowering or raising the outer cover to surround the fish, the support sleeve is raised by introducing fluid pressure into the expandable catty, which causes the collet heads to assume their inactive position. When lowering the external pulling tool onto the fish in this manner, collet fingers, which have low bucking resistance, do not collide with nor are axially displaced by the fish.

External pulling tool and method of operation

A well service tool has a mandrel including a fluid flow conduit therethrough in fluid communication with a workstring including a fluid pressure source. An expendable knife-mounting sleeve is coupled to the mandrel and includes at least one cutting knife pivotally secured thereto. A housing is disposed about and secured against rotation relative to the mandrel by drive pins and is selectively movable relative to the mandrel responsive to fluid pressure from the fluid pressure source. The housing includes a positive extender to extend the cutting knives and temporarily maintain them in an extended position. A closure member is coupled to the mandrel to selectively obstruct fluid flow through the fluid conduit, wherein fluid pressure within the fluid conduit is increased, and wherein relative movement between the housing and the mandrel is induced. A probe is coupled to the housing to open the closure member upon a selected extension of the cutting knives wherein fluid pressure within the mandrel is decreased. At least one stabilizer may be coupled between the mandrel and the housing and is extendable from the housing to center the well service tool in the wellbore and to provide reversed relative movement between the housing and the mandrel to retract the knife from the extended position.

Well service tool

A spear and overshot are provided that use a plurality of collets. The collets are initially displaced by the fish until they are presented against a reduced diameter portion of the apparatus. At that point, the collets are inwardly attracted and the apparatus can be lowered into the fish or onto the fish. Further movement of the apparatus allows engagement of the fish onto the collets as the collets spring back to their original position with the fish trap above. Thereafter, should the fish need to be released, hydraulic pressure is applied within the apparatus shifting a body with respect to the collets allowing them again to be radially inwardly deflected for release of the fish.

Fishing tool

A milling and retrieval tool (10) to remove a packer (14) from a casing (12), and a method to release the tool (10) from the packer (14) for separate removal from the casing (10). Tool (10) includes a sleeve (58) having resilient fingers (60) which spring inwardly against a reduced diameter mandrel portion (42) in the upward position of the sleeve (58) to permit passage of the sleeve (58) through the packer bore (15) for release of the tool (10) from the packer (14). The sleeve (58) is moved upwardly along the mandrel (11) by pressurized drilling fluid discharged from a lower opening (32) of a bullnose section (26). A shear ring (50) is provided to permit downward movement of the sleeve (58) adjacent a reduced diameter portion (30) of the bullnose section (26) for release of the tool (10) from the packer (14) upon the reaching of a predetermined jarring or bumping action of the sleeve (58) against the packer shoulder (18).
